Posted on Mon Jul 11th, 2022 @ 9:21pm by Captain Maia Sterling & Lieutenant Commander Sheena Toran-Blake & Lieutenant Commander Ryan Blake & Lieutenant JG Gavin Ross & Lieutenant JG Samantha Blake, Ph.D

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Deck 01, Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: 239506.12

[ON:]

Arriving on board, the Operations personnel had advised the Science Officer that the captain was indeed on board. Ships computers had placed the Captain in her Ready Room currently.

Onboard the USS Leto, Lt. Gavin Ross, Chief of Science, was finished ensuring that all his science equipment of ongoing Federation experiments, new cargo, and instruments had arrived. Not that the USS Leto, the lean and powerful Norway Class Vessel.

This was one of the Science Officer’s first time onboard the vessel of its class, and he was impressed by all its department’s functions that he did see when he had arrived. Albeit most of the crew were already on their way to shore leave, Gavin had hoped to meet Captain Sterling, still onboard.

As he found out, like most Captains, they were the last to take leave. Captain Sterling, a white-corded member of the TF 11 95th rifles marine brigade, sounded no-nonsense.

“This shall be an interesting day for me.” Gavin stopped at the USS Leto Main Bridge. While he did, he couldn’t help but glance at his Chief of Science station. It looked updated with all the latest systems and layouts Gavin dreamed of. This was his new home.

Chiming the door to the Maia Sterling’s Ready Room, Science Officer Ross had stood back at attention and tugged his uniform. Gavin was proud to be on this vessel and he would prove it.

Maia was going over new personnel transfers and replacements and she was expecting her new chief science officer to report. The Leto's repairs were just about complete and they were due to leave Betazed within a day or two. She was going over the transfer replacements with her first and second officer and her acting chief science officer Samantha Blake.

She heard her chime go off.

"Enter" Maia said.

Entering, Gavin saluted off the bat. He was so used to meeting with the Captain on Science matters, he felt comfortable enough to do this sign of respect.

"Captain Sterling." Cal stated. "Lieutenant Gavin Ross, Chief Science Officer. Reporting for duty, Ma'am." He paused. "It is an honor to be aboard the USS Leto."

"It's an Honor to have you with us Dr Ross." Captain Sterling said.

Sheena had been working on several reports with Maia when she heard the door chime. Looking up she saw a new Lieutenant standing there. "Welcome aboard Lt. Ross. Hope you are finding your quarter's suitable. I am Lt. Cmdr. Sheena Toran, the Executive officer," she said, smiling warmly.

Ross gave the nod and gestured. "The Captain of my Captain. Or is it. O Captain, My Captain..." He brushed it off; he was tired from the transfer and between. "It is a pleasure." Ross noticed this seemed to be a meeting. Not quite just for him, but a review of some sorts. There were several Padds across the table seating.

"I have not had time to settle in. Quarters..." Ross ascribed an alien look to the name, a jest. He was in science. His quarters were the Science Labs. "Thank you for your welcome."

Ryan and Samantha were both in the Officers' Mess having a cup of coffee together and catching up. They had scant little time during the last mission for just having some sibling bonding time when the summons came. Ryan tapped his commbadge. "Lieutenant Commander Blake here. I'm with my sister now. We'll be there in a few minutes."

He looked at Samantha and shrugged. "Captain normally doesn't summon both of us. I wonder what's up."

Samantha's shrug matched her younger brother's. "Sooner we get to Maia's office, the sooner we'll find out. Come on little brother."

Ryan grinned as he rose with her from the table. "You know I am bigger than you now."

Samantha recycled her coffee mug and tapped the side of her head. "Not up here."

Ryan just chuckled as he recycled his own mug and followed her out. Two minutes later they were in Maia's Ready Room.

"And this is Lt Commander Ryan Blake and his sister Dr. Samantha Blake. She will be working with you as assistant chief science officer. Captain sterling said.

"I would like you both to meet our New Chief Science Officer Dr. Gavin Ross. " Captain sterling said.

"Why don't you tell us about yourself Dr Ross." Sterling requested.

Gavin turned to notice the two officers enter. One was a Lt. Commander, whom he assumed was Lt. Commander Ryan Blake. The Leto's Chief of Operations, and then his assistant in Science, Lt. Jg. Samantha Blake. oO Married, both last names... Can't be? Oo

Gavin afforded both the Officers an acknowledgment. "Lt. Commander, Lieutenant." He dropped the Jg.

"Yes, Captain," Ross affirmed, returning to her question. oO About myself... Well... Oo "Captain. I am neurotic when it comes to Science Labs and their best practices. Science, for me, is almost a religion. If not for some species, it already is." Gavin meant Vulcans.

"I am on time. I am hard working. I have cured two viral outbreaks on Ketel Prime, a hostile planet. Set up a Field hospital with the USS Dreadnought and overseen inhabitants in a war-torn state. Our hospital was being bombarded. Recently, I spent time lecturing at Starfleet Academy until I was called into action on the USS Leto as your Chief of Science." He sounded confident, not cocky. He wanted the Capt. to know what she was receiving.

Maia Stood and offered her hand.

"Welcome aboard Dr Ross. Its good to have a chief science officer again."

Samantha stepped up and shook Gavin's hand, a smile of relief on her face. "Pleasure and I prefer the title Doctor. My rank is provisional, granted for the purpose of my being the acting Science Officer."

"Thank you, Captain. It is my duty to serve." Gavin let his eyes look to the readings of the room, was he to leave or stay. He didn't know, therefore he stood in place.

"Of course, Doctor." Ross affirmed. "As Sciences head. Personally, I prefer to be called Dr. Ross, only in the clinic of Sciences. But I understand the confusion this would cause." Gavin winked.

"Well, the Science department is yours Dr. Ross. Organize it as you see fit. Dr Blake will be your assistant chief, We have 4 science labs on this ship including and an extensive astrometric's lab. If you need anything, please see Mr Blake. I generally have an open-door policy, but I prefer you to follow the chain the command. You will report to Mr. Blake. He will be your supervisor. Any questions?" Maia stated.

"Thank you, I will make fast work of the science facilities, Capt. Sterling." Gavin acknowledged. "I will collaborate with Dr. Blake. I understand the chain of command and will follow your wishes to the tee, Sir." He assured and looked at the other officers.

"Capt. Sterling. Are there any projects that you wish for Sciences to be working on during the recent upcoming shore leave?" Ross was prepared to work through a shore leave or two since he had done in the past. "Astrometric labs on the Leto.... Suffice to say, I have had jealous looks from my science compatriots on other vessels already, so I will have thorough use of them faithfully." Ross asserted.

We do need an updated planetary survey of the planet and system. This is more shore leave than a mission, but Starfleet does want an update on Omicron Delta

"You will have it Captain. Thank you. I believe I have taken much of your time. I shall start sector and planetary scans." He added.

"If there is anything else, I will let myself out." Ross noted that there was considerable conferencing to be done between the attending officers.

Very Good Lieutenant, Welcome aboard.
