Mission: The Riixian Insurection
Location: Staff briefing room

{ON}

With the ship en route to Betazed to find the Caliphate bioweapon, Marina had requested a meeting with Ryan, Kasey, Captain Sterling, Counsellor Raal, and Doctor Hendon in the staff briefing room. She was still recovering from her emotional telepathic outburst hence her caution in calling Robert to be at the meeting.

Thanks to the EMH things were starting to settle down. Robert was now back to full health. But he was still concerned for Marina. Her trip back to full health would be a rocky road. He arrived in the staff briefing room and nodded to the others.

“ Hello. Sorry I am late. Some last-minute health checks kept us busy.” He said

Following shortly afterward was Isabelle, she’d been kept busy helping those that Marina had affected with her telepathic outburst. She nodded politely and took a seat.

Kasey arrived and took a seat next to his sister. "Hello, all. I hope things are getting better for everyone after what has happened."

Ryan was the last to arrive. He walked into the room looking at one PADD in his right hand two more in his left and another two tucked in his left armpit. He took a seat and continued reading until Maia was ready to start the meeting.

Once the six were all together Marina offered a brief smile. “Thank you all for coming. I requested your presence here because you need as much information as you can get about the Caliphate. When I was inside Andreas’ mind I had access to his memories, but when he defeated me he locked those memories away.” She looked around those gathered before settling on Kasey. “Kasey, I want you to find and unlock those memories.”

A warning light started to flash in Robert's mind.

“ Um…..I know it would be a big help. But is this wise?” Robert asked

“That’s a good question Doctor” Isabelle looked towards her medical colleague. “I take it that’s why you asked me here Marina. You want me to reassure everyone.” She paused. “Given everything you’ve been through lately, I wouldn’t recommend it.”

"I know I can help her unlock the memories. As twins, we can connect on a level other Betazoids cannot. Betazoid twins are still a mystery even to the Betazoid medical world, but I have learned things over the years before I knew I was a twin." Tanger added to the conversation. "I do have the means to help her find what we need in her mind but it will likely take a lot out of us."

Marina nodded offering her brother a smile. “Please Captain, it’s the only way I can access those memories, to get the information you need on where the bioweapon is being kept.” She looked towards Ryan. “Commander you know I can do this!”

Ryan looked at Marina for a long moment before turning to Maia with a nod. "I would agree with Lieutenant Monroe. I wouldn't say it is without risk, but we need the location of the WMD."

"I didn't realize you could link minds like that, If you think it will help then I suggest you do it. However, we have received new intel about the Caliphate. The Biogenic weapon as well as Sheena's parents on the second moon is not the third like we thought. There is an abandoned missile silo that has been repurposed about 5 kilometers southwest of Niation falls, there is also a small base under Niation falls which is where I believe they are not only controlling the biogenic weapon but also the telepathic amplifier. You may have been there before Lieutenant Monroe. The Caliphate also has a major base on the third moon, which I believe is where the main body of their military is. I think if you can do this link up it will help us get to the truth of the matter which I know the Betazoid value truth above all." Maia said.

Isabelle looked towards Maia. “I can monitor the connection Captain.”

Marina nodded and looked towards her brother. “I’m ready when you are.”

Isabelle looked towards Marina, then at Kasey. “Be warned if I sense anything wrong I’ll have Doctor Hendon sever your connection.”

Robert pulled out a medical tricorder. Since the incident, he always carried one just in case.

“Please be very vigilant on that. I do not think Marina could survive mentally wise another mind quake.” He said

Isabelle nodded and smiled. “Understood Doctor.”

Marina looked towards her brother. “Kasey are you sure you want to do this? As much as I feel we need to do this, I don’t want to risk harming you.”

"I am here to help and will do what I can to help my family, biological or not," Kasey replied. "I am only happy to help my sister."

Maia nodded completely agreeing with Marina on this point. She didn't want anyone else hurt.

"I am the most qualified as I have a biological connection. Granted, I did not know about my sister until this whole ordeal, I am still going to help her if I can. I know I can do this and help her and Starfleet and myself in the long run."

‘I’m ready when you are” Marina took a deep breath before closing her eyes, she let her mental defenses down so Kasey could enter her mind easier.

Isabelle kept a careful watch, she could sense the dropping of Marina’s defenses. “Marina’s defenses are down, she’s letting Kasey in.” She kept a vocal record for everyone else in the room.

"I am sensing a vast array of thoughts and emotions. I will likely not be able to verbally communicate all that I encounter. Don't be alarmed, you all will know if you need to pull us out but this is going to be rocky for Marina and me. I am in her mind and I am going to....." Kasey replied until he mentally crossed the threshold into the mind of his sister.

He could hear the voices of those in the room with Marina and himself, but he was now experiencing memories of his sister and feeling the emotions and picking up on the thoughts she had during the memories. It was as if he was Scrooge in A Christmas Carol only being shown his sister's life instead of his own.

Marina tried to focus her brother’s attention on what she’d found inside Andeas’ mind, but memories of her own experiences with the Caliphate crept in. Flashes of Ryan’s father, and a younger version of herself being assigned deep cover. Images of her first encounter with Andreas, and her subsequent ‘initiation’ into the Caliphate. Like all members, she went through extensive mental, and drug-induced training. Re-focussing her own efforts back to Andreas, she tried to re-direct onto what was needed now.

You need to hurry Kasey! I’m not sure how long I...can keep focussed on this

Robert scanned her with his tricorder.

"I agree her readings are in a region I am not happy with," Hendon warned.

"Is there anything we can do for her?" Maia asked

Robert ran the tricorder over her head.

“We need to make this quick or she’s going to have a serious brain injury.” He warned

"I am almost there, I see Andreas and I see a window behind him. I see through that window a sea of pain and blurred images. I see a faint but pure white light. I am moving towards it. It is a little ways away. It is calling me towards it. I am needing just a little more time." Tanger states to all.

In the vision, he reaches out his hand, and the light sort of pulls him into it. Once inside the light, he is no longer able to speak to anyone, he is filled with the essence of hope that has been buried deep inside his sister. Then he feels drugged and dopey. He was starting to feel the past of his sister in a way he never thought. This was all happening in nanoseconds.

It was as if her life was flashing before his mind's eye and it was going by very quickly. He was picking up on events somehow and once he got to the point in her life that was the present he emerged from the trance.

"Well, That was not anything I have ever expected," Tanger stated. "However, I believe I may have some information if someone would remind me what I was after." Tanger then looked at his sister and smiled as he took her hand and squeezed it firmly. His smile was all he could share as he knew he needed some time alone with her to talk about what just happened in more detail.

Marina offered a tired smile, she now had a splitting headache but it was worth it. “Was it there? The details about the weapon?”

"Sis, I believe there were details in there. I need a few moments to collect the thoughts and memories I wandered around in." Tanger replied. "But I do believe what I saw can help. I just know this was a big strain on you and your mind was fighting it towards the end."

Marina sat with her head in her hands. She wasn’t used to allowing anyone so deep into her mind, and her recent trauma didn’t help much.

“Are you alright?” Isabelle offered a smile as she leaned across to Marina.

“Just a headache” Marina nodded. “I appreciate you asking though.” She smiled before a sudden realization hit. “Captain! Andreas wasn’t a fool, that weapon could be activated from practically anywhere! He trained all of us, pushed us to our limits and beyond! There’s a whole network of Caliphate members out there who could quite possibly form a... telepathic chain of sorts, that could... set off the weapon!”

"We have located the main focusing lens of the weapon under Niation Falls on the second moon. We are assembling a demolition team that will rendezvous with Commander Toran" Maia said. "If we can knock out that lens we will greatly weaken that chain. Maia continued.

“He’ll also have arranged telepaths as protection, so you’ll need blockers for anyone... whose err... sent down there.” Marina frowned as a trickle of blood ran from her nose. A few moments later she was flat out on the floor.

Why didn’t anyone ever listen to their doctor's warnings? Robert had feared this would happen.

“ I think we are way beyond this was a bad idea…..” He ran a probe over her head. He adjusted a hypo and pressed it at the base of her head. Where it met her spine. He continued to run the probe over her head.

“ That was close….we almost turned her into a zucchini. She’ll come around in a moment. But please if you value her life. No more of this please for at least a day or two.”He warned.

Marina slowly stirred, opening her eyes she lay for a moment wondering what had happened before her headache, and blood on her clothing reminded her. “I think...Owww! kind of says it all.” She slowly sat up offering an apologetic glance as she cleaned herself up a little with a tissue. “I’m sorry, I didn’t intend for that to happen.”

"I hope that we will not ever need to do that sort of bonding again," Tanger stated to his sister. "I saw some details, and if we focus our attention to the second moon and work to dismantle or destroy the main lens we could likely hinder the evil mission, but from what I saw there is a secondary measure in place."

"A secondary measure? Can you elaborate on that Lieutenant?" Maia asked.

"I saw a device under the main council chambers where all the diplomates will be gathered for the hearing and vote for Betazed to either leave the Federation or remain with it," Tanger added. "I saw a shrouded person stationed in each corner of the chambers and facing the dead center of the room. So I think they are the means to activation of the secondary device to wipe out the diplomates and other officials to throw Betazed into a state of Martial Law and thus allow the Caliphate to take control." Tanger then had a small drop of blood come from his nose, but that was it.

"Did you see any way to thwart that secondary mission?" Maia asked.

Hendon ran a probe over Marina. She was slowly recovering but he was still concerned for her.

“ Try and calm your breathing. You are not out of the trees yet.” He warned

Marina nodded tenderly. “I know Doctor, the fact my brain feels like it’s been skewered is telling me that.” She offered a wry smile before resting her head in her hands. To say her senses were fuzzy was an understatement.”

"I can only offer a white noise device only at a frequency that would affect telepaths. I would say a mental thought that if amplified could make the telepaths drop their focus long enough for non-telepaths to slip in and take them out. However, this would affect all telepaths so many of us would be out of service at that time." Tanger replied to the captain's question.

“ But it would be a temporary thing. Once switched off there should not be any lasting damage. That would be a better solution and the collateral damage would be minimal.” Robert replied

"They have to be using an amplifier to focus the mental energy, can we reconfigure the equipment we have to scramble theirs?" Maia asked.

“ Perhaps science can work with medical on this?” Robert asked

"Most definitely I can help with that as well." Maia states.
