Captains Log Stardate 239504.21

Damage control teams have been working on getting the Calypso back online for the last 6 hours, there is a lot of damage but most of the sabotage has been repaired or corrected. I have been informed that we can't repair the warp drive without a space dock. Also, the main warp core has been jettisoned during the battle. The impulse engines are in pretty fair shape. Commander Summers advised that they should have her up to 90 percent power. The Calypso has no torpedoes but the phaser arrays have been repaired. Navigation, life support, and inertial dampeners have been restored as well. There is ship-to-ship communication but no subspace communication. The Marines and security have rounded up all the clones that were still alive. They are in the brig on the Leto. I have left Lt Barth in command of the Calypso. He informs me that they are almost ready to get underway.

Sterling, Maia A, Captain, Commanding USS Leto

----------------------------------------------------------------

[ON]

Maia was back on the bridge after having interrogated the prisoners. They had indeed been sent to sabotage the Calypso. Their primary purpose was to sow discord and support the Orion pirates in disrupting peace and diplomacy and starting a war. Commander Cahill got a full deposition from them.

Back on the bridge of the Leto, Maia waited patiently for Lieutenant Barth and his team to fire up the engines on the Calypso. It was going to be a bumpy start.

Lieutenant JG T'Plana-hath had assumed the role of intelligence officer aboard the Calypso. She had done her best to bring both the SCIF and the Intel console on the bridge to operational standards. She was not pleased with the progress, but she continued with due diligence in the SCIF.

T'Plana brought the intelligence computer online and began reviewing the data stream, looking for any discrepancies and corruptions. Already she was noticing the system would need a full overhaul. She was also doubted it should be used until it was overhauled.

T'Plana was there any usable data at all?" Maia asked.

T'Plana responded in a flat emotionless voice, typical of Vulcans. "As it stands, I would not trust the data that is present. It is too corrupted. The SCIF and Intelligence computers should be taken offline. This would include the Intelligence sensors. This will reduce our sensor capacity to a 23rd century Constitution starship."

At the Science station, Paisley's eyes roamed the data as it came back from the Calypso. "Ma'am, science is ready to assist. Everything is as it should be, from my end," she reported.

"What about the subspace interference what is causing that, Maia asked?"

"Tachyons," Paisley replied. "We can put a shield up, and we might be okay," she said.

"What is causing the tachyon interference, is it a natural or artificial phenomenon," Maia asked.

Rick gave a glance up, "What about flooding the area with anti-protons to negate the tachyons."

Paisley nodded. "That would work, but only temporarily. Ship won't be able to handle the radiation after a few hours," she said. "I'll begin that, and you can decide about the shields. I'll get with Engineering about a time limit," she said. "Thanks, Lt. Gibbs," she said. "Ma'am, anything else?" She asked.

"Try to find out why it's happening. it's causing a lot of interference with the sensors. could be intentional," Maia said.

Sheena stepped on to the bridge and sat next to Maia, "Sorry I was detained, but here none the to ess. Captain how far have our teams gotten?", Sheena asked Maia.

"From Ryan's last report, they have restored impulse power to 90 percent, recharged the phaser banks, and got the shields back up, they are still having trouble with the navigational deflector though, the ship's warp core was ejected. So the Calypso will not be able to go to warp. Her port Nacelle is damaged and she will require extensive repairs at a spackdock facility.

Triton does have a spacedock, but at the moment, they are not Federation-friendly. If we can put a stop to this war. We might win them to our side, however," Maia said.

"Well captain," said Barth, "We could tow the Calypso, or get it under its own power and get it to spacedock that way."

Colin was just trying to figure out what could really be wrong with the Calypso. He tapped his com badge. "Barth to Griffiths," he said, "you are in the Calypso's sickbay huh? Have you found anything interesting?"

Gwen sat behind Calypso's CMO's desk, going over his logs. Unfortunately, they quickly dropped off after the introduction of the clones. She wasn't getting much out of them, and finally closed the terminal sitting back and looking around.

The Calypso's Sickbay was filled with medtechs and engineers analyzing the cloning technology that had been brought aboard by the Orions, and Gwen was starting to feel superfluous. She'd examined the second Mister Thornehill they'd encountered and confirmed he was a clone, despite his protests to the contrary. At least they could tell which was which, thanks to one having a broken nose.

She stood up and stretched, heading back into the main Sickbay. "Mister Morrison," she said, smiling at the lab tech examining some of the samples they'd taken. "How are you faring?"

Greg Morrison glanced up at the doctor and gave a huge grin. "Hey there, Doc," he said, then cleared his throat and got a more professional tone. "So far, so good. The compounds they're using are fairly standard for most cloning procedures, however we've determined the technology is a blend of several species. There's Federation tech, Vulcan, Bolian, even. This group either had a brilliant engineer at the helm, or someone gave them a list to steal and told them what to do."

"Forward your findings back to my office," Gwen said. "I'm returning to the Leto for now."

"Yes, Doctor," Morrison said. "You'll have a report within an hour."

"Thank you, Chief," she said looking around the Sickbay. "All right, everyone," she said, getting the attention of the group. "The ship repairs are nearing completion. I need you all to have your gear squared away and anything you need gets packed up within the next ninety minutes. If we need to beat a hasty retreat, I don't want anything or anyone left behind. I'll see you all back on the Leto."

She gave Morrison a slight nudge. "And see you at 1930?"

Morrison grinned to himself but didn't turn around. "I'll be there," he said.

Gwen smiled and headed out of Sickbay to the transporter room.

"Can I just say how much I do NOT want to be here?" Max said from his position under the helm.

"Yeah, you've said it about 800 times, what's one more?" the ensign at the tactical station said.

Max sighed and looked up at the panel he'd been accessing under the helm console. From his position lying on the deck, he had little view of the rest of the bridge, and he didn't like the feeling that something was going to creep up and grab him again. "Focus on the work," he told himself, quietly.

"Helm's as good as it's going to get, but without a warp core, this ship isn't going anywhere fast," he said. "Do they at least have the deflector up yet?"

"Doesn't look like it," the ensign said. "Engineering says it was damaged pretty heavily."

"Thornhill to--" he paused, trying to remember the Chief Engineer's name, "Summers. Need an extra pair of hands with the navigational deflector? I'm done up here."

At Deflector Control, Sayori was getting irritated as the problems with the navigational deflector, it simply refused to be solved. EPS relays kept breaking. Capacitors chose not to capacitate. The computer screen said everything was okay with a smile and a wink as if trying to get under the engineer's skin.

Problems were fun to solve, but ideally, they cooperated a bit.

The comm channel opened while she was cussing out the computer, at least some of which Max must have heard. "Nandayo! Suki ni sure ba? Kuso." She took a deep breath. "I'd welcome any help you can offer, Lieutenant," she said. "I'm on Deck Six." Something new started sparking. "Kanben shite!!" she exclaimed before the comm channel cut out.

Max's eyebrows went up in surprise. "Sounds like she definitely could," he said, half to himself. "Okay," he said, turning to the Ensign at tactical, "keep an eye on the place, and no wild parties till I get back."

Ensign Delacroix balked. "I'm...in charge of the bridge?"

"There's literally nothing to be in charge of," Max said, gesturing to the empty and mostly powered-down bridge. "Keep a lock on my comm badge and if something happens, transport me to the bridge. Other than that? Yeah, you can hold down the fort."

He walked over to the turbolift and when the doors opened, he jumped inside. "Have fun!" he said. "Deck six!"

A moment later, he stepped out onto the new deck and made his way forward to deflector control. As the doors opened, he heard another round of incomprehensible curse words, although he couldn't help but find the juxtaposition of her voice and the severity of her cursing both adorable and amusing.

"Hey there," he said, walking up to her. "I don't think we got formally introduced. I'm Lieutenant Thornehill. Call me Max."

The Chief Engineer had the jacket of her uniform off and was working in a dirty tank top on the deflector system. Purple hair was frazzled and purple eyes were wide and manic. "Max! You're my new best friend! I'm Sayori. If you can get on that monitor and tell me when the power consumption starts getting into the orange, it'd help me a lot!"

Max had enough presence of mind not to let his jaw drop as he got a look at the Chief Engineer, but he was still a bit stunned by the purple halo around her. He still couldn't place why she had such an effect on him, it wasn't like she was the first pretty face he'd ever seen, but he knew an important moment when he saw one.

"How can I let my best friend down?" he said, giving her a grin. He looked at the monitor and at the repair work she was waist-deep in. "All right, orange ahoy. Looks like you're trying to reroute around that burnout near the main ODN conduit?"

“That’s right!” Sayori replied. “But, every time I try, enough still gets diverted toward the burnt out parts and power consumption spikes to compensate. There’s a bleed somewhere and it’s become my nemesis.”

Max bit his lip and looked at the area around it, but nothing was apparent.

She lay on her back and skootched under main conduit. “I’m gonna try again. Tell me if it goes orange and push the override if if goes red. If it stays red for long I might die but I know you won’t let that happen, Best Friend.” She started manually activating portions of the EPS grid, slowly making a convoluted line around the worst of the damage toward the deflector control panel.

Max blinked and bobbed his eyebrows in thought. He paused and admired her working, then remembered to check the gauge. It was moving slowly but steadily to the orange zone. He glanced back inside and saw her hair frizzing out again. He frowned and watched as it slowly wafted around the cavity she was in and eventually moving together towards--.

The monitor in front of him began to flash and he saw it was dangerously close to the red zone. Just before the needle could make it there, he hit the button. "Override," he said. "Sorry, we were about to hit the red zone.

“Thanks for the save!” Sayori said, climbing out from under the conduit. Her hair had started to puff out.

Max gave a chuckle. "Allow me." He reached out to touch her hair and promptly received a shock, which made him flinch, then smoothed it back into something serviceable again. "There we go," he said, finding himself looking right in her eyes.

The engineer giggled. “Seems we have a spark,” she quipped, looking him back in his eyes. A warm shade of brown that made her think of honey.

"Guess so," he said, grinning, then stopped. "Wait," he said, the spell broken, "I know where the bleed is!" He dropped down next to her and looked inside the area she was working again. "Here," he said, pointing at a random bit of circuits. "Static electricity...it's coming from there." He pointed at the spot her hair had been gravitating towards.

“Aha!” Sayori cheered. “Got you, you little nuisance. Pardon my language.” She kissed Max on the cheek and got back under the relay and started her bypass again, first fully discharging and rerouting around the static bleed. “Remember! Red and I’m dead!”

"On it!" Max said. He went back to watching the gauge, keeping one eye on the color and one eye on her. As she pulled the panel off her hair almost danced from the electricity in the air. Max was doing his best not to be mesmerized by the purple haze around her, then realized that it was getting too close to the now-exposed panel. He thought quickly, watching the levels reach orange and made a decision. He reached down, keeping one hand near the panel, and quickly reached under her pant leg and grabbed her ankle, touching her skin.

It must have been one hell of a static shock because he felt his whole body shake from the sensation, but it had the desired effect as the energy was conducted through him and her hair settled back down. Just before the gauge got to the red zone and they had to stop again, she gave a shout of triumph, the light on her panel flashed, and his gauge went back down to the green. He breathed a sigh of relief and, somewhat reluctantly, let go and sat back up.

“Good work!” Sayori exclaimed, climbing out from under the relay and pulling herself back to her feet. She examined the monitor. “it’s looking good! Thanks for the help.”

“My pleasure," Max said, grinning like a fool. "I generally try to avoid getting electrocuted, but it was kind of fun. Hey, speaking of fun," he said in what he prayed was the smoothest segue in the history of human conversation, "I was thinking about setting up a pool hall program in the holodeck I liked to use on my last ship. Would you, maybe, want to have a little get-together and join me?"

“I’d love to,” Sayori said. “Just let me know when.” She tapped her commbadge. =/\= Summers to Bridge. Deflector is back online. =/\=

"Acknowledged," Ensign Delacroix said.

"Tomorrow, 1730 work for you?" Max said.

“That’s perfect!” Sayori replied. Oh I should invite Gwen, she thought. A pool night among friends sounds fun!

"Fantastic," he said. "I've gotta get back to the bridge before I head back to the Leto. I'll see you tomorrow!" He took one more look in her eyes and then forced himself to turn and head back to the bridge at a quick clip, grinning ear-to-ear and already planning the program in his head.

"If they don't get the navigational deflector repaired we will have to destroy the ship, we can't tow it back to a starbase under the best of circumstances not being in a war zone.

As Gwen approached the turbo-lift, her combadge chirped. "Barth to Griffith You are in the Calypso's sickbay huh? Have you found anything interesting?"

Gwen tapped her badge. "I just left, actually. We're packing the last of the contraband and Sickbay's supplies. As for interesting, we're up to our eyeballs in it. Evidently they wanted to establish a secondary, mobile lab on this ship. I don't think they were going to fully clone on board, but they were definitely going to smuggle and supply, and get a few more illicit projects started."

Colin looked at the data in front of him. "Good work Gwen," said Colin as he started looking over other things, "let's wrap this up and head back to the Leto. We don't want to linger around here longer than we have to." Colin started to wrap up what he was doing and tapped his com badge. "Barth to Sterling," he said, "Operations looks to be wrapping up over here on the Calypso."

"Did you manage to repair the navigational deflector?" Maia asked.

Belbre had been to Sickbay on her return to get minor injuries taken care of. When the Doctor finished she went to the brig to check on the interrogation of the prisoners. They did not have much luck so far. But since she was Betazoid, she could use her telepathic powers to read their minds. She did so and found most were just low-level people doing what they were told but one stood out. She looked at the people questioning them and pointed out one that stood out to her. He was brought out and she turned the screws on him and in a few minutes he was spilling all he knew. once finished she left him for the others to continue with him.

She made some notes and went to the Bridge. Once there she went to Captain Sterling in her chair.

"Captain, I went to the Brig and helped with the questioning of the prisoners. One stood out to me and we leaned on him. He admitted to being the leader of the group of clones and is talking now. We should have full details from him soon on his mission.

Also while on the Calypso, I went to the Security Chief's computer. He reported that some of the crew was different and could not understand why. He noted that they were like an entirely different person. I suspect from his remarks he had evidence of clones taking the place of some of the crew members. Then they sabotaged the ship. killing most onboard the ship. Here is the complete download of the security computers."

Maia took the downloaded disk, inserted it into her console, she read the information.

"Good work Havri..."

"Could the navigational sensor on the Calypso have been repurposed for something else and could that be the cause for the tachyon disruption in this area of space," Maia asked.

=/\=Captain, Lieutenant T'Plana here. Do you wish me to take the SCIF, Intelligence computers and Intelligence sensors offline on the Calypso, as I have stated this will reduce our sensor capacity to a 23rd century Constitution starship.=/\=

=/\=Is there a reason you want to do that Lieutenant or is this standard protocol, I'm surprised they even work=/\=

T'Plana replied =/\=There are multiple irregularities in the data stream, I am not comfortable with what I am seeing to state they can be used safely, captain.=/\=

=/\=Do what you think is best, T'Plana, I trust your judgment=/\= Maia replied.

"Maia, I like the idea of giving Calypso a tow to a space dock. However, in towing, the Leto would have to drop the tractor beam and position itself for the defense of both ships which could be like an eternity. So there you have the conundrum of what to do", Sheena said to Maia.

"If Lt. Barth can get the navigational deflector online and stable we won't need to tow it,". Maia said.

Colin was still working on the deflector array. He had almost gotten it right. Tapped his combadge. "Captain Sterling," said Barth, "The Deflector Array is fixed. We can bring it online,"

Colin started packing up.

"Good bring it online and get that ship underway lieutenant, Maia ordered.

Colin got the ship started,
