Mission:
Monsters of the Past
Location: Commodore Stones office
Timeline: 239512.21
[ON]
Sterling and her away team of mission specialists materialized on starbase 50 and were met by a yeoman who directed them to Commodore Stones's office.
Maia introduced her staff and took a seat at the conference table where Commodore Stone started the mission brief.
400 years ago the Borg violently attacked the Aurian(Flame of Heaven) star system in the Delta Quadrant in force. 100 cubes swept through the system not on a mission of assimilation but on a mission of annihilation. El Auria 3 was the home world of the El-Aurian and for 200 years they had been playing a cat-and-mouse game with the Borg. They were masters of advanced technologies and powerful cosmic energies able to completely render their planet invisible and immaterial by putting it in a pocket universe outside of normal spacetime. El Arians have a special affinity with the space-time continuum able to perceive changes in realities between the different dimensions. They proved to the Borg that resistance was not futile. In fury, the Borg decided to use a Trilithium device to make the Auria go supernova and then collapse into a black hole. El Auria-3 reappeared later and inevitably would fall into a black hole. Without the power of their (Flame of Heaven), they could not maintain the pocket universe indefinitely. There were survivors and the species did survive but they were scattered throughout the Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta quadrants. Their advanced technology was lost to posterity seemingly forever.
47 refugees were just some who made it to the Alpha Quadrant and arrived on the Human vessels SS Lakhul and SS Robert Fox in the late 23rd century. Most of those tried to get into the energy ribbon which was considered the closest thing to Galactic serenity as one could get however their plans were interrupted by the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B, which rescued the 47 survivors of the SS Lakhul and SS Robert Fox. Ironically didn’t want to be rescued. After the rescue, it was discovered that the El-Aurians were a race of listeners, who had a special affinity with the space-time continuum.
After the battle of Wolf 359 several hundred El Aurian scientists came forward and helped the Federation develop weapons and upgrade Federation Technology with Borg-busting weapons and other advanced technology. The Federation with Starfleet's aid built an advanced weapons research base in the Mutara nebula called Mutauria base, staffed with mostly El Aurian scientists and researchers. The El-Aurians helped create/develop quantum weapons, Transphasic weapons, and greatly advanced Federation weapons, Transwarp, and Quantum slipstream propulsion technology. The scientists at the base are researching various ways to extract energy from other subspace and trans-dimensional realms. Starfleet received a distress call from the research station asking for help. Their research into Meta special domains has yielded results that are effective against the Borg however they are damaging to the subspace domain.
Another El Aurian specialist has volunteered to investigate the issue the eminent Dr Anduin Tolon from the Vulcan Science directorate. Who is currently stationed on Betazed? The Starship Leto, fresh off of Shore leave is ordered to pick up Dr Tolon and escort him to Mutaurian Base. Full diplomatic courtesies are to be extended, then the Leto will assist in determining what the problem is and if possible aid in its correction.
"Are we on detached duty for this? It sounds like you are placing the Leto under the disposal of a bunch of El-Aurian scientists"? Captain Sterling asked.
"That is correct Captain, Starfleet is very interested in what they are doing and developing," Commodore Stone said.
“It’s my understanding Captain..” Marina looked towards Sterling, “that we have a new arrival on board ship whose an ex-b? Starfleet Intelligence keeps track of such individuals. Perhaps she may be able to help, if only in an advisory sense?”
Jon without thinking chimed in "There are lists of Ex-B's that are regularly updated, so we have a larger pool of information to draw from if the need arises."
"Thank you both for your concern, but this is hardly the venue for such a discussion. If you have concerns you can come to my office to voice them," Sterling said.
Jon flipped back in his mind to something he'd read in the past "Does this include possible research into 'under space corridors'?"
Maia turned to Jason,
"Please elaborate I'm not familiar with the theory," Maia said.
Hirsch turned to Jason the theory of under-space corridors much like wormhole cracks, conduits. He wasn't sold on the fact that this would be the region and or remnants capable after such destructive forces to remain viable. He would be focused on the collaboration of Dr Anduin Tolon from the Vulcan Science directorate. "I look forward to speaking and collaborating on the damaging effects created by the Meta research Captain." Gavin had added in his seat, taking a drink of his coffee he then took a look at his PADD, information on the sector, and the research facility.
Commander Belbre came in and when introduced bowed, "Sir" She then took a seat and listened.
"I'm pretty intrigued at the fact that you have a nearly 450-year-old El'Aurian sitting right here. Yet, I've not been particularly involved in this conversation." Rick tilted his head a little bit.
"Lieutenant Gibbs, do you Dr Tolon?" Maia asked.
Gibbs nodded, "Yes, I've met him. I was also there during the...war, I guess you can call it, with the Borg, as well as on the Lakhul. Not that I particularly like to talk about that time in my life and everything that lead up to the destruction of our worlds, or near annihalation of my people. It is correct about just how advanced we were at one time. The science and technology has not been lost to us, but we generally refuse to share it for a reason, Captain."
"Because we are not ready for it?" Maia asked.
"That would be part of it, yes, but also a lot of it has been lost, due to the extermination by the Borg." Gibbs nodded.
Jon paused to collect himself "About two years ago some files from Voyager's time in the Delta Quadrant were partially declassified one of them was an encounter with a species called the Vaadwaur, the basics were that these people didn't exclusively use warp drive they used a subspace corridor, the basics as I understand them to fall under something called hyperdrive an abandoned faster than light travel theory." Jason paused again "I'm just assuming that anything the El'Aurians may have encountered in their time was on the table."
Robert sat and listened to the conversations around him. At the moment there was not much from a medical perspective to say. He had once met an El-Aurian who he found to be quite charming. They had a very interesting conversation about the east end of London 1990,s and how the old docks. Where transformed from a slum area into a very prosperous area. None of which was necessary to be mentioned now.
Karyn walked silently, hands at Parade rest, if she felt she needed to say something she would, but for now, she was happy to listen quietly and would only respond if they spoke to her.
Lieutenant JG T'Plana-hath was listening to the briefing and making notes on her PaDD. There was one question she noticed no one was asking, so she spoke up "Has anyone considered that some or all of the El-Aurian are actually trying to find a way into the 'Nexus' through other means, under the guise of helping the Federation and Starfleet defeat the 'Borg?"
Robert shook his head." The Borg virtually destroyed the El-Aurian home-world. This may sound naive of me but I can't believe they would do that." He said
Ryan had listened to the other officers for several moments and their conjecture about the upcoming assignment. He decided to get the conversation back on track. He looked to the Commodore. "Sir, is Doctor Tolon here at Starbase 50 or will we need to pick him up at another location?"
"Dr. Tolon is currently assigned to the Vulcan science academy campus on Betazed. The Leto will have to pick him up there." Commodore stone replied.
"I've been in the Nexus before, so it's understandable some may try again. It already happened once, given Soran tried." Rick gave a nod to T'Plana-hath.
Also giving a look to Robert, "They did it because we had the technology to fight them. As in, it was nearly no contest. Other than Species 8472, The Borg found someone that could completely stand up against them and win. That was the reason for the genocidal change in tactics from assimilation." Rick added.
Going quiet, so they could indeed get back on track, also maybe he didn't want to talk about more of it right now. Certainly not about having gone through all of that.
"The Leto will pick up Dr. Tolon on Betazed in 7 standard days. Then take him to the Advanced Weapons Research Facility in the Mutara nebula. There you will be at their disposal until further notice." Commodore Stone said.
"If there are no other questions you are dismissed." Stone said.
