New Orders

Posted on Fri Dec 4th, 2020 @ 5:32pm by Captain Maia Sterling & Lieutenant Commander Sheena Toran-Blake & Commander Ryan Blake

Mission: The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Captains Ready Room
Timeline: Mission day 10

Captain Sterling had received New orders for Captain Thrix. He and First Sergeant Hex were to remain with the ambassador and transferred to the Thorion-4 embassy by order of Starfleet command. It was thought that having a small contingent of Marines there would help facilitate the Thorions into the Federation.

Maia mulled it over in her head and called in her senior officers to talk about it.

=/\= Commander Toran , Lt Blake and Lt Baily please report to the Captains ready room =/\=

She read the the communique again.

To Cmdr Maia A Sterling
USS Leto NCC-80916
Commanding Officer

Captain Sterling. Due to the nature of your mission and the current problems on Thorion 4, We are ordering the transfer of Marine Captain Orin Thrix Serial number SCX575998821A and Marine First Sergeant Tovin Hex Serial number VSM97944721C to the Embassy on Throion-4 where they assume command of the military contingent upon its arrival to help establish the Federation Embassy. I know this puts you in a tight spot especially where leadership of your company of 95th Rifles is concerned, but we feel confident that you will improvise overcome and adapt. Make it happen, Captain.

Admiral Brand

Maia waited patiently for her officers to arrive.

Sheena walked in, "What's up Maia? New orders?" she said, sitting down.

"That's right Number One, Maia said handing Sheena the PADD. Read this." Maia said.

"They expect trouble on Thorion 4? Oh jeez" Sheena sighed as she finished reading. "So now we're without our Marine contingent. Great! Of all the stupid.......never mind, the brass have their hands full. How is this going to affect us?" she added.

Ryan was the next to arrive. He gave a nod to both ladies upon entering. "Captain, XO." The looks on both their faces indicated there was a new development for their mission.

Bailey had stepped out onto the bridge just in time to see the doors close behind Lieutenant Blake. The first time he’d actually been on a bridge, he paused for a second to take the moment in, before remembering that he was likely the last to arrive.

Breaking into a half jog to make his way to the ready room, Joseph pressed the door chime.

"Enter" Maia said.

"Lt Bailey reporting as ordered, sir.”

Maia handed him the PADD.

"At ease Lieutenant. I have some news that may interest you. Captain Thrix and Master Sergeant Hex are being released from the Leto and will assume command of the Garrison at the Federation embassy on Thorion-4. As the only remaining officer of the 95th Rifles detachment, command of the company falls to you Lieutenant Bailey. Tell me how many combat drops have you had, both real and simulated?" Maia asked.

Joe froze like a deer in highlights. Thrix had mentioned that there was a possibility that the parts of the detachment could be reassigned at certain points, but he didn’t anticipate it being this soon, or it leaving him in charge.

Careful not to appear too awestruck, Joseph collected himself to get through a response. “Simulated, I’ve had somewhere in the region of 130, including my time in training. Plus an extra one that I had to leave early because I broke my leg.”

“In all honesty though Captain, Commander-“ The marine stumbled around the correct fleet terminology for the CO. “-This is my first actual posting. The closest I’ve ever come to a real drop is when Laura Green dumped me back in school. Getting dropped there was definitely an experience, but I feel that’s not what you’re asking.”

"Quite correct what I'm asking is do you feel up to the responsibilities of this posting" Maia asked.

“‘Responsibility’ is one of the fake middle names I tell people I have for dramatic effect, sir.” Bailey replied. “I have every faith in my ability to lead the detachment, sir.”

"Very well then under advisement of my staff, I pass the torch on you you Lt Bailey. I have every confidence in your ability." Maia said.

"Do you have any questions for us?" The captain continued.

“If I could please.” Joseph started, still processing what’s happening.

“How does the chain of command work now, do I still take orders from Captain Thrix until we reach our destination? Do I now report directly to you? Is there anything you need me to get my guys prepared for? If I do report directly now into you, do I get to join senior staff briefings? Do I need to have to do a presentation or anything? Do I get Captain Thrix’s office now?” He asked, his mouth going a mile a minute.

"Captain Thrix and Master Sergeant Hex have been relieved of his duties. Lieutenant I am placing you in charge of the Company, you will now be a department head and will answer to the Second and First officer and then me." Maia said.

Quite impressed that the Commander had managed to answer so many of his questions in just two sentences, Joe took the hint to not press the finer details further. “Sounds good to me Captain.” He nodded.

"I will trust your judgement but please don't hesitate to ask questions or get advice from any of us. I am not throwing you to the wolves on this I want you to succeed in spectacular fashion, Mr. Bailey." The captain stated.

“It’ll be more spectacular than a Jem’Hadar-Borg drone comedy double act, Captain.” The marine replied with a confident enthusiasm.

Maia admired the Marines Moxie . She had found it a similar quality in some of the best officers she served with including those in this room.

"Very well Mr. Bailey, you are dismissed. Take command of your new post." Maia said.

[End]
