Meeting Lieutenant Barth

Captain Sterling had received several crew replacements after the Monsters of the past incident and while she had lost most of her Marines. Her company had been reduced to a platoon. Not good especially since their current mission would most probably involve combat.
The Leto was currently on her way to Farius Prime it would take several days to get there even at Warp Six. This gave Maia time to interview her new crew. She was busy reading the service record of one such individual.
The new officer was Lieutenant Colin Barth, a rather capable operations officer by all accounts. As was her habit she called her senior staff in both the first and second officer and Chief of Security.
Lieutenant Barth walked into the staff meeting room. "Lieutenant Colin Barth reporting for duty, Ma'am," he said to the captain. He had served with the captain years ago when they both served during the Dominion War. That was a dark time in Barth's life, but his now captain was a bright spot in that dark cloud.
"Ah...Lieutenant Barth, do come in. I'd like you to meet my first officer Lt. Commander Sheena Toran-Blake, my Chief of Strategic Operations Lt. Commander Ryan Toran-Blake, and Leto's Chief Security Officer, Lt. Commander Havri Belbre."
"Mr. Barth and I served together during the Dominion War. Tell me, What have you been doing since then," Maia asked.
Sheena extended her hand in greeting. "Lt. Cmdr Sheena Toran-Blake, Mr. Barth, it's a pleasure to meet you," she said smiling.
"Pleasure to meet you all," said Barth, "I have been in and out of Starfleet over the years, that's why I am still just a Lieutenant. Had a rough patch after the Dominion War, but I am good now."
"You really did Colin. I was there. We were both at the Seige of AR 556, AR-557- and the siege of AR-558. plus other major and minor battles, though for a warrior there is no such thing as a minor battle. Just remember Colin you are among friends now," Maia said.
Ryan stepped forward next and shook hands with Colin. "Lieutenant Commander Blake. Welcome aboard. Captain Sterling has been saying great things about you since she found out you were being assigned to the Leto."
"Thank you, my friends," said Colin, "it has been a rough few years but I feel like I am back in a great group now. Captain Sterling, would you mind if we talked alone? I would love to catch up with you."
"That would be fine, Mr Barth I just wanted you to meet your new colleagues and your superior officers. I have decided to assign you to operations for the time being. However, that may change depending on your skills and passion. Mr Blake will see that your ship's accesses are granted. and Commander Toran will see to your cabin assignment. And Commander Belbre will see to you're security access.
"I'm sure that you have other duties to attend to, thank you for coming by," Maia said.
Once the senior officers left, Maia told Colin to sit down.
Would you like a drink? Tea, some scotch perhaps? Maia asked.
"What did you want to talk about, Colin," Maia asked
"I will take a vodka Tonic," said Colin,. " I seriously want to just catch up with you and see where we stand. Seeing as we were lovers back during the war and before the war, that is."
Colin looked at the Captain and started to have flashbacks to their time as lovers. They had been assigned to many covert missions during the war and had grown close.
"Maia may we speak freely?" he asked.
"Certainly Colin why don't you have a seat would you like a drink," Maia asked.
"I will take a Vodka Tonic," said Colin as he took a seat, "Maia, how have you been since the last time I saw you? If I remember, the last time I saw you we were on Risa. It was a few months after the Dominion War and we were there on R&R. You abruptly left after we made love. Why was that?"
"That was 15 years ago and I was approached by Starfleet command to take a mission, by the time I got back you were long gone and out of Starfleet, after that, I took a position as chief science officer on the USS Tomcat eventually rising in rank and position to first officer. I was there for almost 12 years. about three years ago I was promoted to Captain and given command of the Leto, what have you been up to," Maia asked.
"Well I have been in and out of Starfleet as you know," he said, "Can we talk more over dinner? Say your quarters?"
"Okay, that will be fine say 1900 Hrs"?
"Sounds good," he said.
"See you then," Maia said.
Belbre was a little late due to a security matter she was needed on. She arrived and smiled.
"You're a little late I was going to introduce you to our new officer Lt Barth, but the meeting is over Belbre. What was the emergency its not like you to miss a meeting," Maia said
