~ Leto's gym ~
It has been several days since they had all been psionically attacked. Steve no longer had headaches but he needed to get back to his physical therapy, besides he was sort of crushing on Nurse Peeters. Dr Hendon still had the holographic doctor running too.
He was doing squats at the gym and was getting pretty good on the treadmill. HE still had aches and pains, He was sleeping better too. However, he was trying to heal quickly so that he could go back on active duty. Still, on light duty, Steve wanted full duty by the time they reached Betazed. It had been almost two weeks since he had his legs replaced.
Once he cleaned himself up, he noticed some severe bruising on his toes, so he decided to go to his new second home, Sickbay.
~ Sickbay ~
Steve entered sickbay.
"Hello anybody here?" Steve called out.
“Only us chickens!” Marina offered a brief smile from where she was sitting perched on the end of a biobed, She was starting to suffer from the effects of withdrawal, and had been brought to Sickbay after having ‘lost her lunch’ all over the poor guard in the brig.
"Oh hello, who are you, I don't think I've seen you around before? My name is Steve O'Carroll, I'm an Ops Officer, what your name"? Steve asked by way of introductions.
“I’m Marina Monroe” She offered a polite smile. “Starfleet Officer, and Caliphate terrorist. Hence my friend over there” She smiled at the security officer who was watching their interaction. “So What brings you to Sickbay? if you don’t mind me asking.”
Robert was angry. One of the Betazoid prisoners had claimed the inhibitor was causing them physical harm. But one look at the person's biobed readings said otherwise. The patient had actually spat at Hendon when he pointed out the readings. Hendon had been tempted to put the person on powerful laxatives. But that was not the Star fleet way. So he just walked away and wiped his face.
Hearing familiar voices he walked over to the source.
“Hello, Steve,” Robert said
"Hiya Doc! Steve said amiably. What was that all about?"
“ One of our Betazoid prisoners decided to vent their spittle at me. You know in some cultures that are considered a gesture of true love. But I doubt that’s why they did it. So how are we, Steve?” Hendon asked
Steve shook his head. "Well, they are prisoners. Anyway, I was doing squats working out and I noticed that I have some bruises on my toes. so I came by to have you check it out. I didn't stub them in any way, but they do kind of throb a bit when I'm in the shower."
Bruising without anything hitting his toes? Throbbing? That did not sound too good.
“ You better lay on the biobed,” Hendon said.
He began doing a full scan of Steve’s legs.
“ Looks like a circulation problem. Hmmm…… seems simple to fix….” Hendon picked up a hypo and after pressing a few buttons. He pressed it to Steve’s legs. Then he ran a probe over his toes.
“ These squats you were doing. Did you have any trouble with them? Balancing maybe?”Robert asked.
"I did seem a little stiff, it wasn't like I was doing a lot of weight, as a matter of fact, I was working on my balance more than anything else," Steve replied.
Robert considered Steve’s biobed readings.
“ Well. Everything looks like it’s moving back to normal. Your body is still getting used to these new limbs. So there will be a few minor setbacks. If anything else occurs you must let us know at once. No matter how small. Even an itchy toe.”Robert explained
"Can do, Doc. Thanks. So you are saying these are settling in adjustments my own body is making?" Steve asked.
" Yes, Steve. Give it a few weeks and hopefully, everything should settle down. It's just as you say, your body making adjustments." Robert explained
Marina was sitting trying not to pay attention to someone else's business, the withdrawal symptoms she was experiencing had really started to set in. To say she was struggling was an understatement, she noticed a nearby tray upon which lay some of the vials from the Caliphate ship, in one swift, a quick movement she grabbed a vial and in desperation, she injected the lot. It didn't take long before she was convulsing on the floor.
Hendon swooped towards her at warp one. As he was helped to lift her on the biobed he saw empty vials.
“ WHAT IDIOT LEFT THOSE THERE!!!” He shouted.
Steve bolted over to where the action was.
Using words that Hendon’s mother would wash his mouth out with soap and water. He picked up a hypo. Then he lifted her head and injected it into the back of her neck. Putting her head down he watched the biobed readings.
“ Come on….come on….” He said
"What the hell? What did she inject?" Steve asked.
" Quite literally a power boost........." Robert warned
As the countering drugs started working Marina stirred with an audible gasp. Even though she was woozy the drugs she’d taken had tried to push her abilities past the safety level of the inhibitor she was wearing. The result had caused the inhibitor to overload allowing her abilities free reign, for a moment every lightweight item in the vicinity of Marina’s bed shook and hovered before dropping to the floor seconds later as the countering drugs truly took effect.
This whole thing reminded Steve of a roller coaster ride, or like a haunted sickbay where poltergeists were wreaking havoc with tools and equipment. He knew that Marina was a powerful telepath but a telekinetic too?
"Is she going to be alright?" Steve asked after objects began to fall to the ground.
Robert was hit by a tray of hypos making him swear violently in Russian.
" I gave her a hypo to even things out. It had to be a mild one or she could have a stroke. It's going to be like a hurricane in here. Until the drug, she stole wears off!" He warned.
~ Gym ~
Karyn was on the treadmill running at a steady pace and only looking up to see who was entering, as they were not directly addressing her she checked her pulse and time spent and sped the treadmill. Oh, she had learned the hard way that being able to run fast was a must in most situations.
"Hello Lieutenant, How goes your day so far?" Tanger asked as he approached the treadmill next to the stunning redheaded young woman. Tanger was trying to get his workout routine in before more briefings with other diplomats.
Slowing the machine down so she was jogging and through the perspiration and heavy breathing "hello, there Lieutenant Tanger, it is going fine so far, thank you, how has your day been?" Somers asked still jogging on the treadmill but slowly catching her breath.
"All is going swimmingly, but these diplomats keep me on my toes. I am just trying to keep my routine as best I can." Tanger replied. "Sorry if I interrupted but wanted to say hello as I don't get a chance to talk to many of the marines on the ship," Tanger added.
Smiling at the diplomat "we are a dying breed Lieutenant, you will not see many of us anymore, but for me and all the other green shirts on this ship we are known as Rifles, we are a unit from the 95th Rifles, while it is common to refer to all green shirts as Marines, I like to hear us referred to as Riflemen, but I am not offended it is something that I have to learn to live with. Speaking of diplomatic issues I come from a diplomatically orientated family, my father is one of the Ambassadors to Qo'noS, my mother is a diplomatic Aide, my older sister Lieutenant Colonel Somers has had training in diplomatic circles, but has chosen a life of combat, and myself I was considered the black sheep of the family as I had no interest in diplomatic work" Somers said.
"Well, we have something in common as my parents were diplomats. I grew up travelling from consulates and embassies until I was old enough to join Starfleet myself and I chose the same path. I guess I like travelling and experiencing the cultures and the people." Tanger stated. "So you said you were not offended but I do apologize for not realizing your specific designation so I will run an extra three miles this time as self-punishment and the challenge of it."
Stopping the treadmill and wiping the sweat off her face and both shoulders and neck Karyn went over to the free waits and placed the towel on her one leg she began to lift some weight in her left arm as she looked at Tanger with a smile "there is no need to do the running Lieutenant, honestly I am fine, if you find it easier to refer to me as a Marine then do so, but something tells me that your training will not allow this" she said then concentrated on her breathing as she changed arms.
"Well, I will do the running anyway as it is my day for the extra distance, but I will do my best to call you a rifle in the future," Tanger replied. "I have to learn to adapt as now I have a sister I never knew about and she is not just a sister but a twin sister."
Looking startled at Tanger "that must have been a head-turner Lieutenant? "Somers asked as she placed the wights down and flexed her arms trying to relax as she started to control her breathing.#
Sheena walked into the gym to use the punching bag. Hurt and frustrated because of the devastating news she got, she needed to neat up on something and the punching bag was perfect.
Sterling came in and saw Sheena at the bag, the frustration was clearly evident as was the worry and torture of not knowing.
"I don't have to be an empath to know what your feeling Sheena. Have faith we will get your parents back safely." Maia said.
Rick also was a little bit behind Maia. Giving a look a moment at Sheena. He as well didn't have to be an empath to tell. Even though in his race own way he was. For the moment not interrupting them, however.
Maia started stretching and limbering up, she was taking a Tai Kwon Do class in 20 minutes and wanted to warm up.
