Mission: The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Captains ready room

Once they had been shown their new living quarters. The next argument to break out between Tom and Petra started . It seemed both children wanted the same bedroom.

Alice as always came up with the best idea. To solve the problem. Whoever picked the card with the word daisy on it won. The loser got a plate of spaghetti hoops on toast. Tom won but let his sister have the room. He wanted the spaghetti hoops instead.

“ Now I know why some creatures eat their young.” Robert said

Giving Alice a kiss he left to report to the Captain.

Soon Robert stood outside her door. Making sure his uniform was tidy. He pressed the door chime and waited to be called in.

*Enter*

Robert entered the room and stood to attention. He shook the Captains hand in greeting.

"Ah Doctor Hendon, do come in, I was just talking to Captain Kenway about you. He is sorry to see you leave, apparently the Cygnus is being decomissioned then upgraded. Long work. What can I do for you?" Maia asked.

Hendon handed the Captain a padd with his transport papers.

“ I have come to introduce myself. These are my transfer papers I am your new Chief Medical Officer. If your have us that is.”

Very good, Have you met our First Officer , Lt Commander Sheena Toran?" Maia asked.

Standing, Sheena extended her hand to shake the Doctor's. "Pleased to meet you sir", she said smiling.

He shook her hand.

“ Yes and please. The only time anyone calls me sir is when my wife is about the fling something at me. Doc will be fine. Anyway I am the one who should be calling you ma’am. Your both my commanding officers.”Robert said smiling.

"I am glad you are here Doctor and I must also apologize as I am about to take the Leto in harms way. Our mission was to establish and build an embassy on Thorion-4. we have done that. But there are complications with that process. Several of our crew members are missing we believe kidnapped by either the Riixxian Caliphate or the Orion Syndicate. We have received no demands for a ransom so I am assuming the worst. Unfortunately that may leave us with a lot of casualties, which I'm hoping you are able to attenuate. Tell me about yourself and family. Maia asked.

Hendon nodded he had dealings with Orions before. They could be nasty when the mood took them.

“ Well I am married to Alice. She is a trained kindergarten and junior schoolteacher. We have twins a boy and girl. Tom and Petra both age five. I come from a very large family of Russian origin. But myself and my three brothers and twin younger sisters. Were raised in Cambridge which is in the UK. Hence the British accent even though I was born in Minsk. As for being up for the task. I was CMO on the Cygnus. Our last mission ended in a Romulan sneak attack. That killed over nearly half the crew. So I have been in crisis situations before. Orions are not known for their gentle treatment of prisoners. I’ll do what can be done to repair the damage.” Hendon said.

Yes, my condolences on the tragedy of the Cygnus. She will be laid up for quite some time I'm afraid. Captain Kenway stated that the ship essentially needs to be rebuilt. The Cygnus may not see action again for two years. I have every confidence in your abilities Doctor. Is there anything you need? The captain asked.

Before the doctor could respond, "Yes I also heard about the Cygnus. Terrible loss of life and good officers. My sincerest sympathies go out to you and those who were lost. The Orions are, in my opinion, the most detestable bunch of cut throats in the universe. They have no remorse and are out to make a profit if it suits them. I have seen what they can do....." Sheena said, lowering her eyes as she caught a flashback.

Robert felt a little guilty about bringing up the brutality of the Romulans. Compared to the Orions they were kittens.

“ The first thing they tell you before you put the uniform on and make the pledge. Risk is part of what comes with wearing this badge. If you want an easy life, walk away and have one. But if you wish to be more then just what you are now. Then put on the uniform.” Hendon said idly.

“ Are you alright Captain?” Hendon asked

"Yes I am. I was just thinking about our missing crew. We are a diplomatic and scientific research vessel. And you are quite right about the uniform. Even a ship like this has missions fraught with dangers. I do look forward to meeting your wife. What does she do? Maia asked.

Hendon smiled as he spoke.

“ Well when she is not trying to reason with our children. She is a very good kindergarten and junior teacher. Plus a botanist but that’s just a hobbie when she has time.”

"I have some plants that your wife might like Doctor. If she wishes, I can bring them to her, and maybe she can help me in careing for them. Never had a green thumb," Sheena said chuckling.

Hendon gave a slight intake of breath.

“ It might be best if Alice comes and visits you. Only Tom and Petra are at the who can shout loudest stage of being five years old. They might get broken. Talking of green thumbs I am a little concerned about , our entanglement with the Orion's. I do hope the crews medical records are up to date.” Hendon said.

"Technically this is our first mission, but the records are up to date. Right now it is incumbent on you to have sick bay systems and your nursing staff at 100 percent efficiency, I am about to take the Leto into harms way" Maia said.

Hendon nodded he knew what had to be done.

“ Well. Don’t worry Captain I can assure you. That we will ensue that the butchers bill. For whatever the Leto gets into. Will be as low as possible, Ma’am.” He assured her.

Maia stood up and offered her hand.

"Welcome to the Leto, Dr. Hendon" Maia said extending her hand pleasantly.

"I hope Doctor you enjoy your stay here and welcome as well. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask me. My office door is always open," Sheena said extending her hand once again.

Hendon shook her hand but was a little worried. He thought his position was perminant not temporary.
