- Starbase 51 - Personal Quarters -

After receiving the surprise field promotion Karyn really wanted to make her Sister and Cousin pay, they knew that she was not interested in a commission, but prior to boarding the shuttle she had been given she got a message on her Padd explaining why she was given a commission, she still wanted both her kin to sweat, but she would settle for this, now here she was all essential stuff she would need, the Norway class was much smaller than anything else in the Mira sector so she would be limited to what she could take. So here she was in her quarters choosing what weapons to take, she would need her TR116, Bat'Leth, Dak'TagH knife and Mek'Leth blades, she wished he had one of those collapsable quarterstaffs her Sister had, but sadly she did not.

She had finished her selection as her door chime sounded "Enter" she said and in walked the Quartermaster and his assistants, they had come for the rest of her stuff that she had packed they would take it to long-term storage here on the Starbase, while another group would take her essential items to her assigned shuttle, she thanked them and let them get to work, all she carried with her was her weapon carry bag and a small personal travel bag, her class 2 shuttle would hold the rest in the rear of the craft. As the quartermaster staff were going about their duties she admired her new Officers bandolier and looked up startled as the quartermaster spoke to her.

"Lieutenant Somers, here is the data chip with details on where your excess stuff will be stored when can I register these quarters as vacant and send in a caretaker crew to make sure the place is clean?" He asked holding the chip out to her.

She took it and nodded her thanks "2000 hours tonight, officially I leave in the morning, but I intend to get an early start, besides I am too wired to sleep, and I do not know how much a Marine XO will be needed at my next post, but thanks for this Chief," she said indicating the chip.

The Chief nodded with a smile and finished supervising his people as he entered the given time on his Padd, after an hour and a half his people had finished and all Karyn was left with was her two bags. She looked around the room lingered on her sleeping area and wistfully smiled remembering the girlfriends she had over and all the laughs they had, she moved onto the other sections doing up her tunic and tugging it down "well I suppose it is time to go" she said to herself and picked up her backs putting the weapon one over her shoulder and as she entered the doorway and it opened "Lights off" she said and her former quarters were plunged into darkness and without looking back she headed to the flight bay.

- Shuttle USS Mary Rose -

The class 2 shuttle named the Mary Rose had been reassigned to the Leto, so after getting in and sealing the hatch Karyn sat in the pilot seat and ran through the checks with flight control and started up the engine while working with SB51 flight control when all was green, using the thrusters rose the shuttle up and slowly moved the ship forward towards the launch doors which were open and had a force-field keeping the atmosphere in while allowing entry and exit for ships. The moment she was clear she looked at the open space and was startled as Starbase flight control came online.

=/\= Starbase Fifty-One flight control to USS Mary Rose, you have clearance to leave the area and to head to Thorion system, safe journey Lieutenant =/\= the anonymous voice said.

=/\= Thank you control, USS Mary Rose out =/\= Karyn said and the moment she cleared the flight space she jumped to the shuttles maximum warp and put the ship on auto-pilot and pulled out an old fashioned book, put her feet up on the co-pilot's chair and got lost in the book,

One Week Later...

- Thorion air Space -

Karyn was sleeping in the back when an alert sounded waking her up *grumbles* "I must be there" she said to herself stretching before standing, she had to keep her frame bent over a little as the shuttle was not a big one, rubbing her eyes she sat in the pilot seat, the shuttle came to a stop at the Thorion defence line as a challenge was sent to her, she sent her details back and clearance orders and was allowed past she headed straight for the Leto which was in orbit of the planet, as she reached flight control range she opened up a channel to the Leto.

=/\= This is the shuttle USS Mary Rose to Leto Flight Control, requesting permission to land =/\= she said and awaited a response,

Senior Chief Keitel was taking a break from his duties planetside to return to the ship for some much-needed catch up on paperwork. He had volunteered to take a shift as Chief of the Watch so CPO Cooper could spend time with his son for the five-year-olds birthday. He stepped over to the Ops console as the transmission came in. =/\=USS Mary Rose, this is USS Leto, Leto Seven speaking. Permission granted. Come about to the aft quarter and hold station two hundred meters out. We will tractor you in.=/\=

=/\= Acknowledged Leto, handing over control to you =/\= Karyn said as she allowed the tractor beam to guide the shuttle in, if it was her Sister then such an incident would not be needed, but she was not so she was glad of this.

Hank turned to the oncoming CotW and nodded. Most arriving officers would normally be met by a fellow officer, but with a good portion of the officer and senior NCO staff currently rotating to the embassy for set up, the ship was short-handed at the moment. He entered the turbolift after giving the oncoming Chief a short briefing and made his way to the shuttle bay to greet their newest Marine officer. He entered just as the shuttlecraft set down in the landing circle. He walked forward and stopped a few meters from the shuttlecraft's aft ramp.

When the shuttle was secured from the flight and the engines shut down Karyn stood up and picked up her carry bag and weapons bag along with two padds one for the shuttle transfer and the other hers. She lowered the ramp, making sure her long red hair was immaculate and her Officers shoulder belt straight and there were no marks on her white band around her shoulders, satisfied she was ready she walked down the ramp squinting a little as the bay lights were a little brighter than the shuttle ones, but she quickly adjusted, when she could see clearly she noted a lone SNCO standing there, she assumed that he was waiting for her.

Stopping in front of the guy and with a smile introduced herself "Hello Chief I am Second Lieutenant Karyn Lynne Somers the new Marine Executive Officer, is the Captain onboard or at the Embassy? What of the MCO are they available? *pauses* Here is the Padd with the shuttle transfer on, the USS Mary Rose is to be part of the Leto's shuttle compliment, your Chief of the Boat should get this" she said in quick succession.

Hank took the PADD from Karyn before motioning for a lower enlisted striker to come over and take her luggage for her. He turned back to her. "I am the Chief of the Boat Lieutenant. Senior Chief Gunner's Mate Henry Keitel. You can call me COB or Senior Chief, whichever you prefer." He gestured to the exit. "The Captain and the MCO are both currently planet side at the embassy site. The captain is due back within the hour though. The Crewman will see to it your bags and any stowed luggage on the shuttlecraft are taken to your quarters. I can take you to the Captain's Ready room and get your in-processing started if you like."

"Thank you Chief" she looked at the rating, I have some essentials on the shuttle if you could get them to my quarters please crewman!" she said looking at the rating who had approached her as she handed over the bags she was carrying looks back at the Chief "that essential stuff I mentioned Chief is on the shuttle and will need more than one person" she added and looked back at the rating "careful with that long bag, there are some delicate items in there" she finished.

"Yes Sir" the rating simply responded and called over some others to help him with the luggage.

She now looked back at the Chief "Who is the Security Chief on this ship? I have some weapons I have to register with the armoury and place in it" She asked.

Senior Chief Keitel chuckled as he pondered the best way to answer her question. "Well, technically with the Chief Security Officer and the Marine Detachment Commander currently off the ship, that duty falls the senior officer of one of those departments." He paused for a moment before continuing. "That would be currently you sir."

Looking surprised all she could think of saying was "oh! I see" she recovered quickly though "okay, um never mind then, I will leave the details of this shuttle with you then Senior Chief and I shall leave you to your tasks," she said.

Senior Chief Keitel gave a nod of his head. "As you wish Sir."

With a final wave goodbye, she headed off towards her new quarters wondering how S'arila would have managed to walk straight in a ship this small, she had to bend over a little on the Tomcat and that was a larger ship, shaking her head in futility as she entered the nearest lift and had it take her to her quarters, while on route her Commbadge came to life.

An hour later Captain Sterling arrived and was in her ready room filing a report. =/\= Lt Somers please report to the Captains ready room =/\= Sterling called.

Tapping her Commbadge to make the connection =/\= Yes Captain, I will be there directly, Somers out =/\= she signed off as the lift opened up on the requested level, she walked down the corridor and looked to see which room she had been assigned, then lo and behold out came to the rating that had taken charge of her items on the shuttle coming out of her quarters. "This mine?" She asked and the rating simply nodded "thank you" she said with a smile and entered the room long enough to drop her weapon bag and then she left the room again and returned to the nearest turbo lift and entered, "Bridge" she said as the doors closed. Unlike the Tomcat that has a rear door to the CRR, she had to access the CRR via the bridge on a Norway class, quickly enough she stepped out onto a utilitarian bridge those on the bridge looked over to see who had entered some gave a curious longer look but returned to their tasks hen they saw her tug down her tunic and straighten her Officers shoulder belt as she headed to the CRR and entered as the doors opened "Second Lieutenant Karyn Somers reporting as ordered Captain" she said giving Sterling a smart salute.

The captain returned the salute smartly.

"At Ease Lieutenant and welcome aboard," Maia replied. "Please take a seat" She added.

"We have a bit of an emergency going on right now. It appears our Chief of Security Lt. Angelina Brannon has been kidnapped. We are going to find her one way or another. She was making some adjustments to the security perimeter between 1845 and 1859 hours. Her equipment was found she was with two other security personnel whom she sent to retrieve another tool. She was knocked out and dragged away, then beamed to an undisclosed location, most likely to a shuttle or other spacecraft. I'm afraid I'm going to have to bring you to duty as soon as possible Lieutenant." Maia said.

Doing as ordered she lowered her salute and took a seat and listened to what the Captain was saying it was a concern that the security chief had gone missing in a supposedly safe zone and only her equipment remained Karyn wondered what the hell was going on down on the planet, the transporters bit was also alarming. "Jumping straight in, if I were not a Somers that would be a problem, but lucky for you Captain I am *she smiled* If it is Security insights you need my Brother in law would have been able to help you out, but as he is not here and I am not Security most I can do is plan a S.A.R and it might be wise to prepare for the worst Captain. Now, what can you tell me in detail about the surroundings! Or better yet is there anyone who was there when it happened?" Karyn asked.

"A SAR mission is exactly what I want you to put together. It looks to me like it was a snatch and grab, Lt Brannon had something they desperately wanted, however, it was not on her. The Thorion authorities have closed the system down so no one can escape not even a cloaked ship. So wherever they took her has to be in the system, my guess is that she was taken to ship and left the planet, there are only two places to hide, Thorion 3 and the asteroid field between Thorion 3 and 4. I have Captain Thrix on the surface of Thorion 4 with his marines organizing things down there. You will be in command of the SAR Lieutenant. Any questions?" Maia asked.

Karyn processed the information that she was given "What resources do I have that remains on the ship and what type of force am I allowed to do, kill or stun? I will also need Sensors to locate the exact location of Lieutenant Brannon Captain" she asked.

"You have the resources of the Leto and approximately a platoon of the 95th rifles. As to what you can do, You are an experienced officer and more importantly a Marine of the 95th Rifles as well as a Chosen man. I too am a white chord/Chosen man. You are free to exercise your best judgement and I will back you up completely. Tell me what you need and I will provide it." The Captain replied.

She thought for a moment, "I will need a Medic that is combat experienced, and an Engineer to download any data we might happen across, what Rifles do you have that have that are experienced?" She asked. "As for experienced, I am that, an Officer that is new to me, but that is my burden to bear I will need the authorisation to use the TR116 rifles you have on the ship and authorization to carry out kills if it is required" Karyn added.

"Not one that hasn't been transferred to the surface. I recommend Nurse Kimberly Peeters from sickbay. She is very experienced in combat triage and nursing. We have to make do with what we have Lieutenant." Maia replied.

Karyn nodded, "what engineer do you recommend Captain?" she asked "I will gather a small group of rifles that remain on the ship, but I will need their possible location if it is possible *paused* it seems like only yesterday you walked to the docking hatch on the Tomcat with the ship's crew lining both walls, now here you are the commander of your own ship and a newly minted full Captain, congratulations on the fourth pip Captain" Karyn added with a smile.

"Thank you, Karyn, I appreciate that. I would recommend Ensign K'Rin C'Tinu a very talented damage control specialist, and she is a Caitian and offers other talents and abilities for your SAR team," the captain replied.

"Excellent, I will be sure to add her to my team, now I have to find me a few good men," Karyn said then looked up with a wicked smile "No pun intended there Captain" after a brief embarrassed pause "All I need now is the location of Brannon and I will go in and get her" Somers added.

"That is the big question now, isn't it. As soon as I know, You will know." Sterling replied.
