Mission: The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: USS Leto

Lieutenant Kasey Tanger had a nice conversation with the second officer, Lieutenant Ryan Blake, and found they shared some common ground. They were in the same class at the academy and now their paths were merging as they are now serving on the same ship. Tanger was on his way to have his meeting with the captain so he can be briefed on the situation with the Thorions and the treaty and so that he could step in to be the official diplomatic link in the process.

Lieutenant Blake had escorted Tanger to the Captain's Personal Mess. Tanger had orders to report directly to the Captain once on board to report in and to get caught up on the situation with the Thorions.

Tanger made the door chime sound and awaited permission to enter.

"Enter" Maia said.

"Ah Mr. Blake and Mr. Tanger come in , Mr. Blake please call in Commander Toran." Maia said.

Ryan acknowledged Maia with a nod before departing out a side door to the officers' wardroom.

Maia gestured to a seat.

"Please join me, Mr Tanger. Have had dinner yet? What do you think of the Leto so far?

"Lieutenant Kasey Tanger, reporting to the captain as directed." Kasey replied. "My shuttle docked and I came to find you first thing. Lieutenant Blake was nice enough to guide me to your location. The Leto seems like a nice ship and the harmonics of the thoughts of the crew seem well balanced"

Sheena entered, "Evening all sorry about being late, had a small delay with wardrobe malfunction," she aaid chuckling.

"Mr Tanger this is our First Officer Lt Commander Toran. Number one this is our new Chief Diplomatic officer, Lt Kasey Tanger."

Tanger stood up and reached out his right hand. "Please to meet you Commander." He stated sensing a Betazoid mind. << Looking forward to serving with you. >> He thought to Sheena. "The Leto seems to have a fine leadership staff."

Taking the outstretched hand, she took it gently and shook it. "Pleased to meet you as well," she said looking directly at him she returned the thought. <>

Ambassador Langley entered the Captain's Mess and nodded to Maia, Ryan following on his heels. Henry looked over his shoulder at Ryan. "Well, I probably won't need you on the away mission to establish the embassy what with Lieutenant Tanger's arrival aboard ship."

Ryan spotted Sheena already present so he simply remained quiet, but acknowledging Henry with a nod of his head.

Sheena spotted Ryan and walked over to where he was standing.

"Greetings Ambassador." Tanger stated to Henry. "I have been looking forward to the chance to work with you."

Ambassador Langley shook hands with Kasey before taking a seat at the table. He turned to Maia. "Perhaps we should go over the away team assignments for establishment of the embassy and the survey mission."

"We will certainly do that, however I wanted to know how much Mr. Tanger is up to speed concerning our current mission, have you read any of the background information"? Maia asked.

"Ma'am, I have read some of the data, but I would much like to hear a direct report of the current events and the personal experiences of the Thorions as that seems to be more helpful at least for me." replied Tanger.

Ryan looked from Kasey to Maia. "I have been putting a lot of time working up the background information for the mission." He gestured to Kasey. "Ambassador Langley and I could bring Lieutenant Tanger up to speed in short order."

"Its alright, Lieutenant. I would like to do it as this mission is very important to me. Mr. Tanger, fourteen months ago star date 9309.12 The USS Tomcat a Federation starship under the command of Fleet Captain Jasmine Somers was patrolling along the Federation Orion border, when she received orders to intercept and capture Orion pirates who were raiding local star systems, intersteller trading ships and even taking hostages from prominent politicians. The leader of the Orion pirates in this sector was Captain Arwella of the Orion pirate ship Lemuria. She commanded an armada of 12 ships with special holographic and cloaking capabilities. She was busy destabilizing the local sector and amassing riches, especially from the Federation side of the border. It was thought that the Orion syndicate was based at Thorion 4. This proved to be inaccurate as the inhabitants of Thorion 4 led by a Bashar (Colonel) named Jola’n led a revolution against the syndicate during the Dominion war defeating them, and in the ensuing struggle Bashar Jola’n managed to wrestle control of the military sector from the syndicate and make a number of changes such as the abolishment of slavery, and corruption and the establishment of a feudal type of government. When the Tomcat ran the pirates out of the sector, Captain Arwella had no place to hide and was thought destroyed. The Tomcat had a small armada with them as backup. The planet Thorion 4 has a refurbished old style K-7 station in orbit around it, that had neutronium plating. It has over 60 Ballista’s (Manned warp capable Corvettes) and hundreds of Javelins (Automated Drones) for protection. Bashar Jola’n was very impressed with the Tomcat and its crew, their peaceful intention and there friendship overtures. Even after the Tomcat moved on Bashar Jola’n established treaties with the intention of either becoming an ally or actually by becoming a Federation member state. About 4 months ago, Pergium was discovered on Thorion-3. This caused pirate mining activity, along with an uptick in syndicate crime to rise in their space. Jola’n now a Prelate has requested that the United Federation of Planets establish an embassy on Thorion-4 and start formal relations.

My orders are read as the following: To Commander Maia A. Sterling you are hereby requested and required to assume command of the USS Leto NCC-80916. Further you are ordered to proceed to the Thorion star system to establish a formal diplomatic embassy and diplomatic relations with the government and inhabitants of Thorion 4.

Bashar Jo'lan asked for me specifically because I was the XO of the USS Tomcat on our initial investigation of pirate activity in this sector. Jo'lan is very interested in joining the Federation so this is going to be a very important assignment which is why Ambassador Langley and a contingent of Marines will be staying behind to make that happen. Questions?

"No questions, Ma'am." Tanger replied. "I do appreciate the update in your words. It helps me get a sense behind the meaning that reading a prepared statement just does not give. I have read as much as I could get ahold of about this mission and the Thorions. I am honored to be assigned to this very important mission and tasked with assisting the treaties between the Federation and the Thorion Government. I am also equally honored to have the chance to work with Ambassador Langley."

"Then the Thorion government honestly wants to join the UFP. That is quite a good fortune for the Federation, and for them as well. Then I assume that my over all job here is two fold. One, as an emissary of trust, and two, security for the mission on the planet besides Lt. Bannon," Sheena said.

"That is essentially correct Number one. We are the best the Federation has to offer. We are making history". The captain replied.

"That is a nice feeling to have, that we will be part of history in the making." Tanger stated. "This will be my first diplomatic work where I am not assigned to any planetary embassy. I am looking forward to working with this ship's crew to move diplomatic relations forward and to help represent the Federation and Starfleet in the best light possible."

"We are extremely happy to have you, Mr. Tanger. If there is nothing else then please see Commander Toran for your cabin assignment and be sure to check in with the doctor for a physical." Maia said.

"Thank you, ma'am." Kasey replied. "I feel like I will fit in on this vessel as I already feel like I have found my home. I will definitely get with Commander Toran and then see the doctor."

"Again Welcome aboard Mr Tanger. You are dismissed." Maia said.
