Reaching the MCP

Posted on Tue Nov 29th, 2022 @ 7:06pm by Captain Maia Sterling & 2nd Lieutenant Saul Humphries & Lieutenant Commander Sheena Toran-Blake & Lieutenant JG Gavin Ross & Lieutenant Commander Havri Belbre & Lieutenant Isabelle Raal

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Machine domain
Timeline: 239510.29

The Leto team raced through the machine world canyons dodging tank fire almost the whole way, there had to be a faster way to the MCP Maia thought.

There were I/O towers all over the place but they were at the end of the canyon. Once they cleared the canyon they would become a sitting duck for tank fire and whatever else the pirates decided to through at them.

Maia started thinking three-dimensionally.

"We need to find a way to fly the rest of the way. We need to get to a subspace buffer port and hijack some flying rocket sleds." Maia said over her comm unit.

"Copy, that captain." Tanger stated. "I was thinking something similar, but if our minds are tied to this system, maybe we could write in our own methods of transportation. but it would need for us to access the buffer ports and adjust the parameters like we would at a the arch in a holodeck."

Over Gavin’s communication, Ross replied. “We should be able to adjust the buffer ports if the interface scans our minds and decides we are part of this program.” In a way, they were already recognized by the program. If there were an extra security feature, this would be the case, hopefully.

"Copy that Captain, How about antigravity snowboards? That would let us be able to fly up to about 20 meters above the surface." Replied Belbre.

That's using your imagination and that is exactly what is needed in this place. Reconfigure your light-cycles into rocket-powered hoverboards. We can slide down the hill and get enough speed to boost all the way to the I/O tower. where the MCP is." Maia said.

"Maia you read my mind. Something the machine would never think humans would do," Sheena said coming up on Maia's position.

Ross reconfigured his subspace buffer port access to allow for a burton bound-like snowboard yet powered with hover energy. As soon as his point allowed it, Gavin leaned forward as he would on powder, letting the hill crest lead ever faster and faster energy acceleration sliding down then upward a halfpipe right up to the MCP tower.

Belbre switched over to the board and yelled. "I do have to get one of these things when we get back to the Leto. Right behind you Captain." As Belbre did a double backflip to the I/O tower.

This is an interesting way to travel Maia thought, but she had to admit they were making good time and they were out of range of the tanks and recognizers, She jetted forward at maximum speed. She felt secure knowing her friends and crew were with her. There is the tower we need
to get too.

It was the hub of the MCP and a green beam shout out from it. Perpendicular to its axis. It seemed to be affecting the power flow and shutting off other IO towers near it.

There seemed to be some sort of repulsor field surrounding it that prevented them from getting too close, it seemed this would be harder than she thought it would be. She knew there was access to it. Protected or not, they had to get inside. Maia's team surfed down to the ground level.

There were some sentries posted by the access port.

"We need to take them out before they have a chance to sound the alarm any suggestions?" Maia asked.

"Is there any way to short them out briefly or cause a diversion where their attention could be drawn to?" Sheena said.

Belbre responds, " How about I do a diversionary attack from the left side? That should draw them to me on the left. And allow the rest of you to come in behind them and take them out." As I make a quick turn to the left to get into position. They draw in my direction. Because I am far closer than the others.

"Sounds like a good plan. Maia you agree with the plan to draw them away from us so we can rub them out?" Sheena asked.

"Alright take my identity disc and get it into the base of the MCP I will try to draw off the crowds." Maia said.

Maia zoomed off toward the attackers fired two missiles and then sped off in another direction. The missiles hit their target and several guards were eliminated but now they had tasks and recognizers after Maia, Who led them on a merry chase.

Gavin’s side winded downward towards the empty sentry entrance to the tower. As Sheena took the identity disc and entered the MCP, Ross looked around.

He spotted a hidden sentry guard inside, pointed his phaser, and shot the remaining guard off his balcony.

The guard was vaporized immediately.

Maia kept running leading the pirates away from the MCP they didn't seem to have much volition or self-will, it was almost as if they were all mind controlled. Maia kept gaining altitude. Once she had enough altitude she turned back to the MCP, her intention was to through herself into it to distract it long enough for CM to get her disc into it.

Belbre sent her disc to Sheena by a runner, She vaporized 3 of them and proceeded to try and help Captain Sterling. At her top speed, it was going to take a lot of time to catch up. "Captian, I am approaching your position from you at 7:00 and am attempting to catch up so I can assist you. Will do my best to help cover for you till I catch up to you from a long distance.

Ross gained altitude as he followed the group that was now assisting their comrade, Captain Sterling. Sterling was being followed in behind Sheena as Gavin swerved in with nothing else more to do than help now, his eyes searching for more oncoming enemies, as they orbited from the MCP.

Maia's flyer was hit and she was thrown right into the MCP. The whole thing changed to blue as it was distracted but her own personal code. suddenly she felt odd as energy coursed through her and she seemed to quantum leap out of the Machine world back into the real world.

She looked around at the castle-type parapets and the enemy charging the gates who suddenly disappeared.

Maia looked around, admittedly she was disoriented.

"Caretaker"?

"Captain Sterling your mission was a success. You updated the security code and expelled the pirates from the system. The code was in your DNA. Once you merged with the MCP the security patch was installed expelling the pirates forever," The Caretaker said. "You and your crew have saved the entire quadrant from slavery and tyranny from bad dreams and we are forever in your debt."

What about my, crew, Maia asked.

"They are even now leaping back, now," The caretaker said.

One minute, Saul was battling pirate card programs and was doing a pretty good job of eliminating them. the next minute he felt a surge of energy and was somewhere else some sort of control room in a castle. What the?

Belbre looked around a little disoriented. But ok, She saw the Captain, wow what a rush, though it was dangerous it was fun.

The event horizon had met its deteriorating circumstances of the program adaptations that the USS Leto crew had introduced. The caretaker seemed pleased if he could exhibit such a feeling. Ross felt more relaxed now as he stood down, a bit sad that he was no longer riding a cyber wave on a snowboard.
