Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Ampitheater/Castle with parapits
Timeline: 239510.29

Steve had turned back to the amphitheater as he was retreating. He wished they had a more fortified place as a base.

As he looked up the amphitheater morphed into a Castle complete with parapets. The flags atop the parapets had the USS Leto logo and the battle-hardened crew went through the
gates across a draw bridge.

Lt. O'Carroll went through and looked for a more senior officer. He saw the doctor had set up a triage area and was treating the wounded.

When Robert had seen the charging playing cards. He remembered back to a recent mission on the Leto. Where the crew had been attacked by people. Armed with playing cards deep in an anti-blood clotting solution. One cut, even a small one could cause. The injured party to bleed out, if not instantly treated. He then worried if just by the thought of that. Would cause harm to his fellow Leto crew members. But thankfully the playing cards attacked them. Where nasty but not coated in anything dangerous. They just had sharp and nasty weapons.

“ Well, thankfully these wounds are treatable. Even though we are in a castle though. I don’t think we’ll use leaches like they used to do.” Robert said. He moved over to O’Carroll.

“ We need to get back to that device. If it gets damaged the others will be trapped.” He said

"The device is safe in the war room, if you follow me I will show you," the caretaker said.

Hendon gave a slight jump. He had not seen the caretaker appear. Had the others returned as well?

“ Caretaker. I did not see you there. Have the others returned yet?” Robert asked

They are making very good progress. They will soon install the code that I need to eradicate the pirate threat. I knew I was right to ask your crew to intercede on our behalf, anyone else would have been a grave risk, but you Starfleet types are extremely courageous. The caretaker added.

Something about the caretaker's tone concerned Robert.

“ Caretaker. May I ask….what would have happened if we had not come here?” He asked

"The Orion Pirates and Ferengi would gain control of people's dreams throughout the quadrant. It would be very unhealthy if that happened. It could shift the balance of power in the Alpha and Beta quadrants. Imagine the subconscious mind out of control it could drive people to insanity, The Ferengi gained access to a partial security code that makes sure that doesn't happen. I have given Captain Sterling the patch that will fix it, She has agreed to install it herself. It is the system's way of restoring balance." The Caretaker replied.

Robert was just about to reply when he heard horses. Looking around he saw iron-clad figures on horseback, advancing towards the castle. They were carrying swords and axes.

“ Oh oh. Looks like round two everyone.” Robert said

"To Arms to Arms, all hands to the parapets!!" Steve shouted.

Behind the castle's walls, they could probably hold off the hoard for a long time. plus there were a number of crossbows archers and catapults that could be used to repel the invaders. It didn't look like they brought siege engines. at least for this round of battle.

It was this fact that surprised Robert. But he kept this out of his thoughts. If anything this all reminded him of those childhood days. Back in the forests around the university city of Cambridge, on planet Earth. Where his father worked as a senior lecturer. Hendon and his little friends used to play forts. Armed with nothing more than sticks for swords and pillows for shields.

As if on cue the charging attacker's weapons changed. From metal and steel swords plus axes. They were changing to wood then back again. Thankfully their weapons stayed the same.

“ I just thought about a childhood game I used to have and the weapons changed. But they changed back. If we all thought together maybe we can change things in our favor?” He said

"That is an excellent idea, concentrate," Steve said.

The caretaker appeared.

Gentleman your captain and crewmates have successfully turned the tide. The security and safety protocols are in place. The Leto crew has been successful and has stopped all further incursions into the system. Your captain and crew have been returned to you.

With that Naia walked up to the battlements knowing that they were now on vacation.

"Let's take out the garbage and then start enjoying our vacation," Maia said.

[End]
