Lieutenant Commander Kasey Tanger's body was found in Engineering after suffering an Isolytic shock while working on the EPS manifold. He was checking some power fluctuations while we were maneuvering through this asteroid field As we are not using the warp drive he wanted to take a look at it. He took his glove off and accidentally brushed against the manifold. Death was instantaneous. Lieutenant Satori Summers found his body during shift change and reported the incident immediately. Funeral arrangements are being made, and I have the unenviable task of replacing a dear friend in his role as Chief Engineer. Going through the records the obvious choice would be to promote Lieutenant Summers to Chief Engineer, She does have the experience and knowledge to perform well in that role. Sterling Maia A. Maia sat in her ready room making her log comments and final funeral arrangements got Mr Tanger. It had been a Day of days, She had lost two of her friends both from freak accidents. Her duties as the Captain of the Leto meant having to replace them with the most capable officers she had available. In the case of Commander Tanger, Maia chose Lieutenant Sayori Summers, She was the most capable Engineer left in the department. Her qualifications were glowing. She had served on multiple ships working her way through the ranks and had amassed an impressive array of knowledge. She was currently serving with distinction as an assistant Chief Engineer aboard the Leto. Her Officer evals were 5 by 5 and even Commander Tanger spoke highly of her.

Maia got up and looked out her port hole at the asteroids as the Leto passed them. Composing herself and trying not to weep at this time for her friend.

When the summons came, Sayori Summers had been in main engineering at the MSD. The mood was somber, and while she was interim chief until someone was named formally, she dared not say much to improve the air. People were in mourning, and as long as the work was getting done, they were welcome to feel sad. She expected to make some time with Counselor Raal and would encourage others to do the same if they felt it would help them.

She gave a quick nod to Ensign C'Tinu, ranking officer in the room, to watch over things in her absence and found her way to the nearest turbo-lift.

A few minutes later, Sayori was inside the Ready Room, having followed Commanders Toran, Blake, and Belbre inside. She stood at attention, ready and eager to hear what this was about.

"Ah, Sayori, I called you all here to ask you if you would take over for Commander Tanger and become the Leto's Chief Engineer. I've been going over your record of achievement thus far and find you to be the most capable officer. The job also comes with a promotion to Lieutenant Commander," Maia said.

Sayori's eyes lit up and widened. The chief engineer of the Leto! A shiny new hollow pip for her collar! The circumstances leading up to it might have been deeply troubling but she did really deserve it. She worked hard to get where she was. She had been talking with Tanger about the future and he said he was going to recommend her to succeed him when he left anyway.

She grinned wide and had to work hard to stop herself from jumping for joy. "Thank you, Captain! I won't let you down, I promise!"

"You never have have, Commander," Maia said pinning the hollow pip on her collar.

"Computer, upgrade Sayori Summers, to the position of Chief Engineer of the USS Leto, with a field promotion to Lieutenant Commander effective immediately, Sterling Alpha-16.

Command code recognized, Sayori Summers was posted as Chief Engineer of the USS Leto NCC-80916 on Stardate 239602.16.

Maia extended her hand.

"Congratulations Commander Summers, I wish this had been under more joyful circumstances," Maia said shaking her hand.

"Congratulations Commander Summers. You truly deserve tour promotion and I know you will fit the role", Sheena said smiling warmly.

Sayori, this is Lt Commander Sheena Toran, She if the First officer, she will also be your supervisor and rater, " Maia said.

Belbre arrived and stood by, "Reporting as wished Captain." She could tell something was wrong and did not attempt to let on she knew anything.

"Ah yes, this is Lt Commander Havre Belbre, Our chief of security. Havre please ensure Sayori has all the correct security credentials posted for Chief Engineer. " Maia said.
