The Leto had vanished into thin air. No one had made it back aboard and there were a bunch of playing cards charging down the hill towards them with pikes and swords.
Lieutenant Steve O'Carroll was the first to realize what was going on and he sounded the alarm. He immediately wished he had enough weapons for everyone to defend themselves and the weapons and shields appeared. Swords and pikes.
He grabbed some and started to distribute them to the remaining crew members.
As Robert reached for a sword it changed into a Shashka an old Eastern European sword. But that was not all his uniform had vanished to be replaced by Cossack armour. Complete with a very nasty spiked shield.
“ What the?” He exclaimed.
Karyn thought she had escaped this madness, but suddenly those that remained around her their outfits changed as did their weapons, everyone but hers she sighed heavily "well us Somers have never been ones to conform to normalcy and always stood out!" she commented as she was still in her Starfleet uniform, but she did find a longsword and shield, the sword was in a scabbard on her right hip while the shield was strapped to her back "where the hell did these weapons come from!!" she exclaimed then remembered where she was "nevermind" she said and was regretting arriving on the bridge without any weapons.
The platoon of angry cards charged first throwing their spears at any targets of opportunity, then slashing their swords at anyone's head they could find. they weren't particularly elegant or masterful with the swords but they could kill if they got a lucky shot in, however they weren't used to people who fought back. Several Leto crewmembers were injured in the first wave of the assault. But the Leto crew gave better than they got. Once the crew realized this was real they began fighting back in earnest and also using their imaginations and they managed to turn the tide. Someone threw a grenade and it knocked down almost the whole platoon of cards.
Steve O'Carroll picked up a spear the three clubs dropped and pierced the card with it, the card vanished in a puff of smoke.
Robert looked at his Cossack armour and shook his head. When the sword had been thrown at him by O’Carroll. He had a two-second thought about his ancient ancestors. Two seconds. That was worrying. A card that he had just beheaded vanished. Before his feet and the smell of fried onions returned. Robert knew that in some instances. People who experienced mind reading. Often said they tended to smell a strange odour afterwards.
“ They can read our minds in two seconds. We need to be very careful. Is everyone ok?” He asked
T'Plana sighed I should have known this was not going to be a simple matter given the nature of this planet and who she suspected was currently trying to wrest control of the central computer and planet. she thought. Well then, I must join in the battle it seems with that thought she brought to mind an image of a Trillpa {Vulcan Sword} and a Khaiya {Vulcan Longbow} with a full quiver. The items appeared nearby. She bent down and picked the Khaiya up along with the quiver, which she slung on her back. She slipped her left foot under the blade of Trillpa. She then took aim at the Playing Cards charging her fellow shipmates. In what seemed like the blink of an eye she had acquired and fired three arrows at three separate cards, felling all three which then vanished in a puff of smoke. T'Plana began scanning for more targets, seeing Commander about to be skewered as he was addressing everyone, she fired at the Playing Card hitting it square, it fell and vanished with a puff of smoke. "I would advise you to pay attention Commander to your surroundings," T'Plana said calmly adjusting her fire to hit another Playing Card rushing her, again downing it and making it disappear.
Suddenly everyone around her was fighting playing cards, pulling out the sword she joined in the fight "it is like that trippy trip I had in school crazy dream, but not a dream, this time, not a dream" Somers said to herself as she avoided getting paper cuts, but she gave a few of her own.
Marina may have been out of the fight for a time but returning now she was surprised to witness what was happening. The alternate Ryan had done a good job of keeping her busy, but now she was back she was going to put her mental training to use, putting her Caliphate combat training to full use against the enemy in front of her.
Suddenly tanks appeared and started firing at them.
Steve O'carroll yelled a warning before imagining tanks of his own to engage them.
The rest of the cards were rounded up and dispatched in a puff of smoke.
"Two seconds indeed," Steve thought while returning to his own wounded.
T'Plana-hath again sighed tanks now how original, well I guess it is time for me to use the type-1 phaser I secured before leaving the ship. She reached down took the phaser, and set the setting to kill After all they are tanks aimed and fired at the first enemy tank she saw.
Between the tanks blowing themselves up and T'Plana'hath hitting him with phaser blasts the tanks were going pretty fast.
"I think it's time to regroup. Leto the crew, report back to the amphitheatre." Steve requested.
Robert ducked as a tank shell narrowly missed him. Now his Shashka had turned into a heavy-duty phaser rifle. Hendon was back in uniform again. Only this time it was security body armour. Robert wounded how those guys moved in this stuff.
“ Good idea.”He replied
Grumbling "first attacking playing cards which left me feeling like a spade, now tank fire! Oh yeah, regrouping is a damn good idea, so who thought about tanks in the first place?" Karyn asked as she fell back with the rest
Marina fell back alongside everyone else, she was no match for tanks. Playing cards were one thing but tanks were something else.
With the attacking forces in full retreat after taking serious losses, the Leto crew regrouped back at the amphitheater and licked whatever wounds they had.
Robert gave the others a quick once over. But for some reason he was having problems scanning the others. His medical tricorder kept changing shape. One moment it was a stone on a string. The next a tricorder. In the end he just gave up. No one was bleeding or missing limbs. So best to leave it at that.
