Scrambling the Signal

Posted on Sun Mar 20th, 2022 @ 2:47pm by Captain Maia Sterling & Commander Ryan Blake & Doctor Samantha Blake, Ph.D (Geology)

Mission: The Riixian Insurection
Location: lagrange point between Betazed and the second Moon
Timeline: 239502.21

Captains log Sardate 2396

The Leto has slowed our approach to Betazed. Assault teams are deploying to Niation falls to rendezvous with Commander Toran to take out not only the psionic amplifier but also the metagenic weapon and to rescue Commander Toran's parents. As we are on a diplomatic mission Leto herself with continue on to Betazed to be a part of the conference and will through Lieutenant Tanger. In these last few minutes before our arrival, we are attempting to create a signal jammer that may help even the playing field, so that the diplomats can come to a decision about separation of their own free will.

Captain Sterling, Lr Hendon Dr. Samantha Blake, and Lieutenant Dougherty were in the science lab one attempting to come up with a psionic jammer so that they could attenuate the signal that was attempting to control the masses.

They had already figured out how the technology worked the trouble was that the psionic field acted as a resonator and tended to sync up minds and treated each mind as a focusing lens. The Leto herself was able to adapt her shields to protect herself, but that was by no means a solution to the entire planet of Betazed. Could a single ship even combat this problem?

"What about a series of drones", Maia offered, "perhaps we could set up a jamming field between the third moon and the planet?"

Samantha was doing her best to work on a problem that was entirely outside her field of expertise. She was a Geosciences expert. She seemed distracted as she stared at a bit of reflected light on the wall.

"Since we don't have much time, I don't think we are going to be able to pull a rabbit out of our hats in the allotted time. So I was thinking that we could project a forcefield with the same psionic resonance frequency that may scramble any projection the caliphate may send. It's a long shot but I don't have any other ideas, Do any of you?"

Samantha was intrigued by the light. She seemed almost oblivious to Maia and the others.

Ryan glanced at his sister and nudged her slightly to no avail.

"Sam, I know this isn't exactly your field of expertise but I was thinking that if there was a particle that we could add to the shield generators to help deflect, refract or diffuse any psionic signals coming from the caliphate. We have the sensor readings and we have been able to reverse engineer the device. I was hoping you had something in your head no matter how wacky it might be. If not we will extend the shields around the capital building. Out shields have been protecting us. It might work but eh shields will be strained. What do you think?" Maia asked.

Samantha blinked a couple of times as she registered being directly addressed by Maia. She turned to Maia. "We have been trying to come up with modifications that try and block out psionic resonance focusing and adapt the captured technology for the counter offense. The answer is much simpler though." She pulled a crystal from her pocket and turned to Ryan. "You have your penlight, Ryan?" Sam asked...

Ryan nodded and handed the light to her after pulling it from his pocket.

Samantha shined the light at the crystal and pointed at the rainbow display of colors on the wall. "If we scattered crystallized fragments we could disperse the focused psionic energy rendering it useless in regards to mind control."

"That's a good idea, we really wouldn't need too much either" the particles would be so small as to be almost gaseous. Okay, let's try it, it might give us a bit more time before the away teams complete their mission." Maia said.
