Mission:
The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Captain's Ready Room
As Cale Llewellyn stepped out of the shuttlecraft, he sighed. This shuttlebay looked cramped and a tad small. He wasn't aware this ship would be so small. Coming from a heavy cruiser, he had gotten used to having a great deal of space in which to move around.
He asked a passing ensign where the captain might be, to whit she replied, "Who's asking?"
"The new Chief Science Office, Ensign," Cale said tersely.
"Oh, sir my apologies. I saw no rank insignia so I wasn't sure how to react to you. The Captain may be found either on the bridge or the ready room. Sir," and she scampered off to continue with her duties.
"Well then, I suppose it's off to tne to the bridge I go," he said whistilling a tune he had heard as a child. Reaching a turbolift, he entered and said "Bridge." and the turbolift shot off quicker than he expected and needed to readjust his stomach before exiting it and onto the bridge. "I'm looking for Captain Maia Sterling," he said in a louder tone than he used to using and waited.
Maia turned in her command chair on the bridge.
"I'm Captain Sterling, Who might you be?" Maia asked.
Right to it then. Cale thought to himself and added that he may like it here after all. "Well Captain Sterling, I am Dr. Cale Jayson Llewellyn, DSci and I believe I'm to be your new Science Officer. And if you wondering about why I don't have my rank insignia on my collar, as per Starfleet Regulations, I felt it would be inappropriate to wear an old insignia when I don't know what my rank is on your ship. Does that cover all your questions?" the young-ish man said with a smile.
"As my chief Science officer you will have the rank of Senior Lieutenant Mr Llewellyn. Have you served as the chief science officer aboard a starship before?" The Captain asked.
"That sounds acceptable, Captain Sterling. Yes, sir a number of times on the USS Merlin and the Grissom. I've also been aCSciO a few times," Cale said casually.
"Excellent have you talked to the XO about a cabin assignment?" The captain asked.
"Not as of yet, Captain."
"Tell me what is your scientific specialty"? Maia asked.
"That's a loaded question, my dear captain, as I have many specialties. I have a Masters in Quantum & Reverse Genetics. My DSci's are in Stellar Physics which includes work in Large Bore Cosmology and one in Quantum Mechanics. So, you see, I have many specialties which I have always used to the betterment of my ship and crew," he orated this practiced speech.
"Impressive, I started as a scientist myself an astrophysicist as an Ensign, So I'm a science specialist too, at least I can speak your lingo. That will be most helpful on our exploratory missions. Reverse genetics is an interesting field of study how do you use it in application?" Maia asked.
"Actually Captain, I have rarely found a real-life application for it outside the classroom. Though there was a mission, though, when I was posted to the USS Grissom where it came rather handy. I worked with the medical staff on that particular mission," Lieutenant Llewellyn said.
"Tell me more". Maia requested.
"It was a deadly plague on a Federation Luddite colony world. They had requested help from us and since we were the closest starship in the region, Starfleet allowed us to help," Lieutenant Llewellyn said. "I was able to reverse engineer an anti-virus to the plague's genome which would heal the remaining population as well as seek out and destroy the plague DNA/RNA wherever it was hiding. We also later learned that it was a rogue band of Breen privateers who had developed the plague in the first place. We tracked them down, disabled their ship, took them prisoner and destroyed the remaining plague ampules. Anything else you wish to know about me?"
"I'm glad you on our side, that is quite impressive. Do you have your quarters assignment, if not please see the XO Commander, Toran."Maia said
"Thank you, Captain. That's next on my list after dropping in on the various labs and seeing what's going on right now. If that was all? And I'm glad to be here, as well," Lieutenant Llewellyn said as he waited to see if the captain had any other questions for him.
Maia got up to shake his hand.
"Welcome aboard the Leto." Maia said graciously.
"Thank you, Captain. And I will be back up to take my station soon," he said and turned to leave the bridge.
