Hendon knew that his coffee intake was way too high. He needed to back off after all it would not do to have the Oberon’s head of the Medical Department. Bouncing off the walls crazed on caffeine like a demented kangaroo. He remembered a hot sweet lemon and Manuka honey based drink. His mother used to make when ever her little Babushkas had the “busy fits” as she called them.
Bending down he was so busy trying to remember the recipe. Robert did not hear the doors open.
She entered the Medical bay quietly; she wasn't a loud person anyway, and the chime seemed...pointless...for an infirmary. It was like ringing a doorbell on a refrigerator. "Hi, Dr. Hendon, right? Paisley P'rar, the new Chief of Science. We agreed to meet for my onboarding medical checkup." She smiled. She was much more calm than before, and was smiling.
“ Sorry. Just trying to program the replicator with of my mother’s tea recipes. For some reason the computer is finding it a little difficult to take it in. Anyway. Yes your medical. Firstly I must ask are you happy for me to carry out your medical or would you like a female member of the medical team?” Hendon asked.
Paisley smiled. "You're lucky to know your mother's tea recipes. You are adequate, I am sure. I don't mind." She really didn't; she wasn't shy, and any doctor in the Fleet was adequately trained in her anatomy, or so she presumed. "Take your time. I know how important a hit of caffeine is." She waggled her cup of coffee at him.
Robert gave a smile as he gestured towards a free bio bed.
“ Actually I am trying to ween not only myself but several members of the crew off their dependency on coffee. My mother had this tea recipe which she used to give my siblings and myself. When ever we were a little hyperactive. For some reason the ships computer has never heard of Manuka honey. Anyway that can wait. So how have you been feeling recently?” Robert asked
Paisley nodded. "I prefer Bajoran jumja tea myself; it's a tisane so no caffeine but the first couple of weeks of a new assignment can be a little busy," she shared. "Generally well. Brain's a bit tired but that's to be expected; I did inherit the Cardassian eidetic memory, and on top of learning new names and faces, it's been a bit tiring." She would fall into a routine shortly, though, she was sure.
Hendon looked at her bio bed readings and made some notes.
“ Blood pressure slightly high but that’s common in Bajoran Cardassian mixed races. In your bio its states you wear glasses is this still the case?” Robert asked.
She nodded. "When I am working or need to do other close-up activities, yes. I don't like to wear false lenses," she explained. "The thought of touching my own eye is unappealing." She could watch insects divide in a Petri dish, or calculate the distance to the nearest planet in her head, but touch her own eyeball? Ewww.
" You know there is now a treatment for this kind of sight condition. It should work on you regardless of your Bajoran Cardassian mix. It would only take two to three hours to complete. Unless you still wish to wear glasses?" Robert said
Paisley sighed. "I know it sounds crazy, but I am afraid of going blind instead," she said, biting her lip. "The vision is the Bajoran thing; my brother and mother had it before they died, as well." She shared. "My father is a pilot in the Cardassian military; of course, he has perfect vision." It was just another reminder that she didn't quite fit in anywhere. "But I will keep it under consideration. I DO like the fashion of them, so I might keep them just for that reason alone!" She laughed. "I think I am in otherwise good health."
“ Yes. Well this concludes your physical well done. You have passed with flying colours.
"Really? Ok!" Fast and easy this time. "Thank you, Doctor."
“ We aim to please.” Hendon said.
