Mission: The Riixian Insurection
Location: Sickbay

{ON}

Heading down to medical Isabelle paused outside the doors to take a deep breath, she’d spent a lot of time in and out of medical facilities since the loss of her baby, and subsequent attempted suicide. She’d had Counselling galore during her recovery period, but she still felt uneasy setting foot in any Sickbay. Stepping inside she tightly grasped the PADD with her medical records on, She always kept a copy just incase her records hadn’t caught up.

Robert took a sip of his mug of caffeine free tea. He had come to the realise that the crew drank way to much coffee. But if you were trying to ween them of caffeine then it would not do well. If you yourself were addicted to the stuff as well.

Seeing Hendon she made her way across to him. “Hello again Doctor, as promised I’m here for my medical.” She offered a slightly nervous smile.

" There is no need to be nervous we don't bite in sickbay. It always pleases me when someone actually comes in here willing to have a physical. I usually have to quote Starfleet medical regulations. Before some of our colleagues come in here.Willingly." He explained.

Hendon looked at her.

" Protocol dictates I ask this first. Are you ok with me doing your physical or do you wish a female member of staff instead?" He asked

“No, I’m just fine with you” Isabelle smiled warmly. “Forgive the nerves, I’m not sure if you’ve caught up on my medical records yet but...I’ve spent the last two years on personal leave. I suffered a double loss, my father and my fiancé, at the time I was pregnant. The shock induced labour at seven months, my baby didn’t survive.” She paused. “Hence these...” She held up her wrists. “I tried to take my own life, but I couldn’t finish the job. I decided to keep the scars as a reminder of how precious life truly is.”

Robert raised an eyebrow. He picked up a padd and ran his hands over it.

“ As it happens your records have only just come through….. So you have been on compassionate leave for two years? Please forgive me for asking this. But do you feel ready to be back in Starfleet?” He asked.

Isabelle offered a small smile. “Trust me you’re not the first one to ask me that.” She paused. “I’ve had two whole years to think about where I want to be, that somewhere is out here helping others. What happened to me just gives me more insight into what others are going through.

Robert ran a probe over her.

“ Sorry about that I had to ask. Well those two years have done you well health wise. Everything is working well. Your heart rate is good , blood pressure a little up. But being on a new vessel tends to do that. Tell me do you do child therapy at all? Only my twins need keeping an eye on. Given the chance they would happily murder each other. The last counsellor scared them so much after one session. They were to frightened to go again.” Hendon explained

Isabelle looked at Hendon wit surprise. “Heavens! What did the woman say, or do to scare them so much?” She shook her head. “You’re in luck, one of my specialties just happens to be child psychology.” She smiled warmly. “I’ll be glad to help your children, once I can gain their trust.”

Robert looked over her medical records as he spoke.

“ The last Chief Counsellor threatened to take them away from my wife Alice and myself. It took three days before they would let my wife or myself out of their sight. The nightmares still come but not so much. They don’t wet the bed anymore. There only six years old for goodness sake. They should be dreaming of teddy bears and candy baring trees. Not some scary women putting them in a dark cold cell.” He said.

“Goodness gracious!” Isabelle shook her head. “What kind of of Counsellor, or person would do that to young children. I suggest we start out gently, may I drop by and visit your children some time? I’d rather not associate them with my office, it might hold bad memories being in a formal place.”

“ Thanks. My wife Alice will be glad. Tom and Petra have quite incredible imaginations. If you bring them some sort of toy they may take to you quicker. But don’t mention your a counsellor. “ Robert said.

He looked over her readings and nodded.

“ Well that’s your medical done. Is there anything you wish to ask?” Robert asked.

Isabelle smiled as she stood to leave. “Not right now, thank you doctor” With that she nodded politely and headed on her way.
