A surprise at medical

Mission: Monsters of the Past
Location: Sickbay

{ON}

Walking into the Leto’s Sickbay T’Lanna paused to look around, it was an impressive enough area for a starship sickbay. Seeing as she’d be split between Medical officer duties here, and Combat medic when it was needed she would familiarise herself with the area better during her first shift.

She made her way across to the CMO. “Commander Hendon?” She smiled politely. “I’m T’Lanna Vali, Medical officer and Combat medic.”

Robert had read over Vali's bio. He had never come across an ex-Borg before. But he had studied files on another famous one. So he had plenty of knowledge, thanks to his photographic memory.

" Welcome to the Leto's sickbay. Are you here for your regulation physical?" Robert asked

T’Lanna nodded. “I am indeed Doctor, that and to introduce myself to you. We are going to be working together after all.”

Robert shook her hand.

" Hello. I have to ask this. But are you comfortable with me carrying out your physical or do you require a female medic?" Robert asked

“I am quite comfortable with you Doctor” T’Lanna offered a warm smile. “I’ve had my fair share of doctors over the years, especially when I was first recovering from liberation from the collective. I know a good doctor when I see one.”

" I have to check. Very well if you would like to lay down on this bio bed we will begin." Robert looked at the display." Web on right hand... implant above right ear....spinal column and brain stem also have implants. Interesting. How long have you been free?" Robert asked

“Since I was eleven” T’Lanna offered a smile. “I was assimilated when I was five, it took six more years before a ion storm brought down my sphere. My father liberated me, it took several more years before I was anything near being humanoid again.”

Robert nodded and looked at her readings. Everything seemed to be normal for an ex-Borg. But something was not quite right. The output from her nanobots was wrong. The readings did not match any of the files he had read through.

" Where was the sphere when it was hit by the ion storm?" Robert asked as he ran a probe over her head.

T’Lanna frowned. “I don’t know, I don’t remember much of what happened leading up to the crash. The surge from the ion storm not only downed the sphere, it corrupted the link of those of us onboard. There was never any sign of neurological damage, but there must have been some short term memory loss or I’d recall the details.”

Ion storm surge. Ion storm surge. Those three words kept jumping around Roberts head. He remembered once reading a historical document. Concerning a famous Starship and crew who had been caught up in one. He looked through her readings again. The more Hendon looked the more he began to understand.

" My goodness that is the only possible answer. Yes the Ion storm surge must of caused it. Their link was probably incompatible with the Borg link here. Hence the crash and memory loss. Like turning off an old style Lap Top Computer. Without going through the correct procedure." Robert said aloud.

Realising he should of kept this information in his head. He turned and looked at T'Lanna.

" Sorry. This may be difficult for you to understand. Believe me I cant get my head round this. But your from an alternative universe." Hendon said.

T’Lanna gave Robert a blank look before she processed what he’d said as it went round in her head a second time. “I’m ... sorry? An alternative universe? That’s ... not possible! My father would have told me ...” she paused. “But that would mean he’s not my real father ...”

Robert scanned the rest of her and made notes.

" Then again your whole family could be from the alternate universe. That maybe why your father never told you the truth." Robert said.

T’Lanna nodded. “So why has no other doctor ever discovered this before? I’ve served aboard enough ships. It’s not like I’ve been avoiding my medicals.”

Robert could understand her position.

" With the recent increase in more drones being liberated from the collective. Plus a steady rise in new species joining up. Starfleet Medical has upgraded all the bio beds. If you had a medical now on most vessels in the fleet. This would of been discovered." He told her.

T’Lanna nodded. “Then I want to know why no one else told me this.” She could only guess Starfleet was keeping it quiet. “If I wasn’t to be told then how come you haven’t been instructed not to say anything? It doesn’t any make sense!” She sighed and shook her head. “Thank you for telling me the truth.”

“ I believe in being truthful to my patients. If I start holding back secrets and get found out. Know one will ever trust me again. But to my knowledge there is no warning out about telling you the truth. As to why no one has told you. There is nothing in your records to suggest anything. As far as Starfleet are concerned you were born in this Universe.” He told her.

T’Lanna nodded. “I guess that’ll change now it’s in my medical records.” She sighed. “Thank you Doctor, I’d appreciate it if we could keep this between us for now? I need time to adjust.”

Robert looked over the rest of her readings and nodded.

“ Well. If it’s any consolation nothing should change. Your Starfleet record is excellent so they should leave you alone. I took an oath when I earned my laser scalpel. So I am bound by patent confidentiality. Unless you’re going to be a danger to the crew. Which I see no reason you will be. The only thing I do suggest is you have small vitamin C deficiency. But a glass of pure orange juice a day should help.” Ted said helping her up.
