Mission:
The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Marine Barracks, Briefing Room
Timeline: 0700 Hours
[ON]
Gorebets sat at the table there was a carafe containing the juice of life and bagels. On the digital table was a display outline of the ship with checkpoint areas. He sat at the table along with a few datasheets which had notes on them. He smoked a cigarette but was otherwise expressionless. He also had a book called Security Measures sitting next to him. He waited for the room to assemble.
Karyn entered the room and almost choked on the smoke, she looked at the Marine Captain "do you know how unhealthy that habit is Captain? It should not be done on a ship with limited air even if it is recycled" Somers said oO a nasty habit he has Oo she thought to herself.
"Lieutenant I am well aware of it being a terrible vice, but non-smokers die every day too." Gorebets then put it out rather than let the conversation get ugly.
"As my second, I am calling this meeting to go over security protocols and a problematic situation the counsellor of all folks told me about somebody or something called a Toda. Are you familiar with it?"
Tom arrived shortly after Karyn. He nodded to the two detachment officers as he stepped inside the conference room. "Sirs." He took the other seat next to Captain Gorebets across from Karyn, placing his PADD and stylus down for taking notes during the meeting.
Betty sat there holding datasheets out ready to pass them out as soon as the security chief got here. She mindlessly sipped on coffee. For her, it had been too early.
Brannon arrived, Hello everyone. How can Security help the Marines?
"I have heard that name too Sir, but I am not that familiar with that person so on that I am of no help," Karyn said sitting back and crossing her legs as she sat back
Brannon replied, "I know who Toda is and am getting ready to spring a trap. Toda is the one who kidnapped me and is still on the loose. I want to be the one to take her personally. I want to thank Karyn and the Marines that rescued me and the other hostages. I know who Toda is right now and have a Security Officer I trust with her at all times so she is never alone.
I plan to take her into custody in a couple of hours. She was sent to retrieve an amulet that belonged to my mother and to kill me. I have the amulet hidden and am the only one that knows where it is to prevent danger to others. Toda will only attack me when I am alone some to protect others I have a couple of security NCO's with me when I move around doing my duties. She is ruthless and when I take her down it will be in a place where I am alone with her and not endanger anyone else but me.
She has lost the power source that allowed her to phase shift through any wall or deck to attack or escape but she can still change her shape to look like anyone she chooses. When I take her down I want her alone.
"First matter of business.." The captain said with a pause, he then looked at the Chief of Security, He shook his head. "That was completely and totally not needed. This is a standard coordination and briefing session with Toda only *one* of the concerns on the list. Fire Team Baker should be deployed to Strategic Ops with an EMP cell to flush the computer core thereof intelligent data if and when the ship needs to be put down. That is to handle any Strategic Operations Center breeches." He then had Betty pass around the Durasheets.
"Lieutenant the Marines are here to assist Security in day to day daily duties, secure areas, help repel boarders that sort of thing. That is why you were asked to be here. This is a list of equipment and additions to the armoury we are bringing. In addition, I can offer a fire team to guard Intelligence with a similar EMP. I wanted to do that right away but was told by Starfleet Security that is at the Chief of Securities discretion." Gorebets took a swig of coffee.
"The two things I see as a major issue right now is drilling and coordination. So Lieutenant you tell me what you need. This room represents the most senior of the 95th." He said in the neutral casual tone he usually spoke in.
Brannon looked at the list, then back at the Captain. I" I always include the Marines in security matters and actually used them the first time Toda attacked me here on the Leto. I knew I needed all the help I could get. I see no reason not to add these items to the armoury and will sign off on it now. I am also granting you, Lt Somers along with you 1st Sergeant and Senior Gunny Sergeants access to the Armory as well.
I take the security of the Leto very seriously. And also the security of the Senior Starfleet Officers as well. And I agree with working together and independently as well. All I ask is to be informed if you have something going so I can keep my Security Personnel out of your way. I understand Captain, and I was not involved with the preparations for that mission due to the fact I was a kidnapped hostage that they rescued.
I know it is my duty but I am willing to share the duties with you and LT Somers, Captain Gorberts.
I believe Lt Somers actually worked out the details at Captain Sterling's order.
"As you may or may not be aware of, I am the Company Commander, Lieutenant Somers this is for your safety.. Any pass down request you get from Security goes through me for verification. As for joint ventures, There are measures I want to see have happened but I cannot do them without your cooperation Lieutenant, I want the Master of Arms to visually verify and identify all weapons taken in and out of the armoury, I want checkpoints at Strategic Ops, Intel, Engineering and Aux control. I want those checkpoints to use fingerprints, retinal scans and even blood screenings if needed to catch this single threat. Since it seems to be so dangerous." He then looked at the Gunnery Sergeant.
"Gunny what is the current checkout procedure for a phaser onboard?" Gorebets asked the Sergeant.
"Well, if the weapons issue is by Marine SOP. Our Marines would come to the arms room, give their thumbprint, key in the last four of both their service number and their assigned weapons serial number and the arms room personnel would then issue their weapon." Tom looked to Angelina. "Unless Security has a different SOP they would wish to go by."
Looking at Gunny "Sounds like a good idea there" she simply said, as she used to work security it was a good idea as it cut down on those who could access the weapons.
"Lieutenant Somers please explain to the Lieutenant here the 95ths duties on the vessel." He said all of this calmly with no malice whatsoever.
Giving Gorbets a weird look, then looked at the Lieutenant in question "the duty of the rifles as pertains on the Leto is aimed at missions that are too heavy for ships security and to do SAR missions for any crew who get captured, we are required to work alongside ships security where the safety of this ship is concerned, we do the jobs no one else can do and for the record, I am the new Marine Executive Officer, pleased to meet those I have not yet met" Karyn said with a smile.
"Lieutenant Brannon I appreciate any difficulties you may be experiencing but all of this just cannot lay at your feet or the feet of your department. Containment and security procedures should be put in place so no more kidnappings occur. No more senior officers getting beaten and all reasonable stopgap measures applied." The Captain said he looked over at Andrews and she took out a second sheet.
"This is the proposed security point locations, Lieutenant Brannon. Two marines and two security officers, the idea is if an unauthorized person or persons are picked up a level 10 field is erected and you and a member of the command staff either Captain Sterling or the First Officer are called to deal with said persons." Andrews said as she passed the sheets around.
Gorebets looked around, "Unless anybody has any modifications to this idea?"
Brannon smiled, "I agree and if you place some Marines outside of Cargo Bay 2 in 2 hours and establish a perimeter around it. I will draw Toda inside to get her. I ask that you allow me to be the one to arrest her since she made it a person by doing what she did to me. I can handle her once she is inside.
And there is no danger to anyone else other than me, I am the one she wants and has what she wants. Also, I do want the Marines involved with the Security of the ship as well. My Security teams are spread thin sometimes. We both have the same mission. To protect the Leto and the crew."
"There are other delicate points of security that we want to help with, that's what this meeting is about not just helping you with this one problem but by helping with the other problems, such as shortages, areas where we can help, checkpoints and such," Gorebets said.
"Now then Lieutenant Somers you have seniority of the marines, are there any other problems that we need to address as to what falls under the scope of duties that you explained?" He asked. Page three of the packet Had a list of standard operating procedures for the marines. There was nothing highlighted. But it would start to seem The Captain was steering this whole meeting to either cooperating with security or simply setting boundaries.
On Somers sheet there was a page that read;
Lieutenant, I am looking for somebody to tell me I am out of line or I am within my rights as an officer. A good leader will ID what works and weed out problems. Right now I am trying to do both, but if you disagree this meeting is the time to speak up.
"Well I Like the idea of thumbprints for the armoury, but we might go one further, during my time on Starbase 51 the CoS there instituted an ID card method, all ID cards have a chip in them that said who they were, this ID card was not displayed but kept on an inside pocket next to the skin, it was not wildly enforced on the Starbase, but on the Tomcat it was, so perhaps ID cards can be a second line of defence after the thumbprints, but both ways have loopholes," Somers said.
The Gunny's had a note on it that read;
You are hereby made the Master of Arms for the marine armoury once you answer the phaser question. Its to establish we know the procedure.
"Lieutenant Brannon you will get the help you need. But my question next is there anything else the Corps can do for security?" Gortebets asked.
"I was thinking of joint Marine and Security patrols all through the ship also joint duties at any static patrol areas. Like Engineering and other critical areas of the ship" Brannon replied.
"I further would like the Marines to temporarily assume control of being Master of Arms for the vessel, No offence to you Lieutenant but I would feel better if we visually checked out each and every weapon here. I know it's a grade a PITA to do, but the more procedures we have to id weapons checks the less of an advantage we give to any threats." Gorebets said.
Brannon replied, " I can see that part is done. But I expect to have access myself, along with my Senior Master Chief, and an NCO that can act alongside the Sargent at Arms as well so if security needs weapons we can access them as well without having to locate one of you. As to the ID and thumbprint, I do agree with that."
