Mission: The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Supply Shuttle Ludendorff/ Shuttlebay Leto
Timeline: 239408.31

"When men's words fail they are quick to reach for their swords. Our job, is to keep them talking."
-Oliver Cromwell-

ON:

"Captain....Captain Thrix? We are almost at the USS Leto Sir. We will be landing in about 10 minutes. Would you like anything?" Asked the crewman steward on the Supply Shuttle Ludendorff.

Marine Captain Orin Thrix looked at the female Bolian crewman in front of him. "No, Thank you." He replied.

She smiled and walked away. Orin stretched in his seat. He must have fallen asleep. Not surprising. It had been an intense couple of days. Yesterday, He was the CAG on the USS Graf Spee. Now, he had 24 hours to report in to his new assignment on the USS Leto. Orin read about the mission profile the Leto had drawn, and wanted to Volunteer to lead her Marine contingent. It would be a great challenge and responsibility. Orin yawned as he heard the pilot of the shuttle from his seat.

"This is the Supply Shuttle Ludendorff coming in on final approach USS Leto. Do you give us permission to land?" Asked the pilot.

=/\= This is the USS Leto. Affirmative. You have permission to land. Shuttlebay is open to you Ludendorff. Leto out. =/\= Came the reply.

Since Orin was sitting behind the cockpit, he could see the supply shuttle changing and adjusting course. It was coming in on a landing vector. Lining up to come in. Orin knew it would not be long now.

The shuttle came closer.....closer....until it entered the shuttle bay and came to a perfect landing right in the spot she was assigned.

**************************2 mins later**************************************

Orin stepped out of the Supply Shuttle Ludendorff. He had his gear and orders with him. Orin stopped and watched as a crew unloaded the supply shuttle. It carried valuable supplies needed for the ship. He was impressed at the speed and efficiency of the crew unloading the shuttle. You could tell it was not their first rodeo. Orin stepped out of the shuttlebay. He stopped for a second.

"Computer, please tel me the location of the master of this vessel." He said.

=/\= Commander Maia Sterling is in her ready room on the bridge. =/\= Came the reply.

And with that, Orin proceeded to the turbo-lift.

*************************4 mins later***************************************

Marine Captain Orin Thrix stepped onto the bridge. He was not really noticed by everyone working. There would be a stream of officers coming up reporting in for duty. Orin was just one of the 'new crew'. He walked to the ready room and rang the chime.

Maia was busy with inventory and personal reports. A lot of the crew had checked in from the Devonshire. There was seemingly and endless supply of paperwork. She would have to have the First officer assign her a command college candidate to be her yeoman and assistant. At the tractor beam generators had been installed. She heard the chime.

"Enter" Maia instructed.

Maia wasn't too surprised at the appearance of an Orion Starfleet Marine, perhaps the only one in Star Fleet.

Maia stood up and even though she was a tall woman she was completely dwarfed by Mr. Thrix. She wasn't however the least bit intimidated.

"Captain Thrix I presume? Orders please?

"I am Commander Maia Sterling. Welcome aboard the Leto please take a seat." Maia said.

Orin stared at the Commander with a stare that would intimidate most. The fact that his new Commander was not intimidated was reassuring to him. It means that IF he could not do it, it was almost impossible. Orin handed over his orders and sat down.

"I must say that I am delighted to have an Orion as my Marine detachment Company Commander. I myself served with the 95th Rifles SFMC for over ten years. We are headed to Thorion-4 to establish a Federation Thorion embassy there. Bashar Jola'n is the leader there. A brilliant military strategist. I grew to respect while I was there last year. He ended the slave trade and educated both the males and females, actually drove off the Dominion, Jem'Hadar and the Orion Syndicate as well as their pirates. An impressive leader to say the least."

"Can I offer you something to drink?" Maia asked.

"Please. I'll take whatever you got Ma'am." Said Orin on the drink offer. "I will take your word for it Ma'am." Said Orin. "I was trained originally as a Marine fighter pilot. But was shot down in enemy territory for a year during the Dominion War. I spent that year surviving off the land and making life hell for the enemy. When I was finally rescued, Star Fleet trained me for black op's. Rose to command my own team. Now that the war is over, black op's is more of a hobby. I was the CAG on the USS Graff Spee for my last assignment. But the Corp. wanted me here. So, here I am. Ma'am." Orin said. "Well, that's me in a nutshell. I do have a few questions though Ma'am."

Maia went to the replicator "Ginger tea Hot".

The tea materialized and she handed him the cup.

"Interesting no wonder Star Fleet sent me an Orion with black ops training, you will prove to be very useful. Please ask your questions and feel free to speak freely its just the two of us here.." Maia instructed.

She went back to her desk took a seat and sipped her own ginger tea.

Orin accepted the tea. "Thank you Ma'am." He took a sip before he spoke. "Well Ma'am, first off, can I select my own Marine XO, and Top Shirt? Second, May I have a couple of Marines placed in the Honor Guard detachment?" He asked, then took another sip of tea.

"Permission granted, further you have permission to freelance your team as long as you need." Maia stated.

Orin looked confused. "Are you saying I have operational card blanche, providing the needs of the ship and it's mission come first of course?" He asked.

"What I am saying is that you can freelance the men to see if there are any training deficiencies and correct them. Your job is to make sure they are combat ready at all times. You will also pick the very best men you have to act as the official diplomatic honor guard of this ship. We are an extension of the 95th Rifles Regiment which is specifically assigned to Task Force 11. You are free to use whatever training methods you deem necessary to meet that mission objective." Maia clarified.

Maia paused to make sure the captain understood her.

"You will find that I am not a micro-manager, unless I find that you are not doing your job. I don't think I have to remind you that millions of lives are on the line everyday. Though we are a ship of peace, we must always be prepared for war. l will not beam down to a hot landing zone with marines who don't know the job. You can free-lance your team, but I expect the best out of you. Is that clearly understood, Captain Thrix"? Maia inquired.

"You will only get the best out of myself, and the Marines I lead." Said Orin. "That will never be an issue." He said taking a sip of tea.

"I believe you, Captain, and whats more important is that I believe in you." Maia replied sipping her tea.

"Thank you Ma'am. That means a lot to me." Orin said finishing his tea. "I appreciate your hospitality Ma'am."

"One more question Mr. Thrix. What do you need to build your team? Also how can I help make your endeavors successful."

"I'm not sure for right this second to be honest Ma'am. I first need to see the state of training the Marines are in. I'll need time to assess where they are currently at. After that is done, I will be able to give you an honest assessment of how to get them where they need to be. I can sure tell you where that is." Orin said with a smile. "I think we both want them to be the best. And come Hell or high water, by the Gods they WILL be."

Then I wont keep you from them.

Welcome aboard the Leto, Captain Thrix!

Maia help out her hand.
