Orientation

Posted on Tue Oct 13th, 2020 @ 6:36pm by Captain Maia Sterling & Lieutenant Steve O'Carroll

Mission: The Thorion Conundrum Mission Brief
Location: Commanders Ready Room

Steve walked across the bridge. There were a few people working on stations, but most were not regular crew. The full company of chips crew were due to arrive soon and Steve needed to make sure quarters were assigned and logistics were in full swing. He was also a little nervous being given the chief of ops position for the first time. He was ready, but the nerves kept him from becoming over confident.

Steve looked around the bridge and smiled. This would be a nice place to call home. The main viewer was off, but he saw where the holofield would display all images. He wondered what strange new planets or creatures might fill that bulkhead display in the coming months and years. With a deep breath, he pressed the door chime.

"Enter"

Maia sat behind her desk reading the latest intel reports of Orion piracy in the area of Thorion-3.

"Ah..Mr. O'Carroll, thank you for reporting. How was your trip?" Maia asked.

Steve walked in and gave a salute. "Very nice ma'am, thank you. It was a smooth trip although I am glad it is over. I'm excited to get to be part of this crew."

Maia returned his salute then extended her hand.

"Welcome aboard Lieutenant. Tell me about your experiences in Ops. Maia asked.

"Well ma'am, outside of academy I spent my last tour on my home vessel the Galileo. Bigger and a different class, but our Chief Ops wanted me to know everything inside and out for emergencies. At least that was what he said. I think it was more to help kick start my career." Steve said smiling at the memory. "I'm familiar with all levels of Operations and spent the last two weeks focusing on learning all I can on the Leto."

"Excellent, do you have any hobbies?" Mais asked.

"Well ma'am, I spend some of my downtime doing mixed martial arts to try and stay healthy." He started. "Of course I also moonlighted as a bartender so I enjoy mixology to balance the healthy. I also enjoy Astrophysics and billiards, but I'm not that great at either, just an enjoyable hobby."

"The let me tell you a little about me. I was the first officer of the Starship Tomcat for over ten years. I joined the 95th rifles about 8 years ago and achieved Chosen man status which means that I achieved the elite of the elite status among the Starfleet Marines. I came up through the rank as a science officer. I was chosen for this assignment because as the Starfleet presence in this quadrant, it was decided that we needed a ship that was dedicated to diplomacy. While we do have the ability to protect and defend and of course render aid and assistance. We will not be on the front lines of most conflicts. Instead we will have mos of the mopping up actions. We will establish embassies and try through our ideology to expand Federation membership. I do play cards, billiards, and am a great racket ball player. I am learning the finer points of 3D chess from our Strategic Operations officer. I am not hard to get along with. You give me your best and you will progress in your career. I will always give you my best." Maia said.

Any questions? Maia added.

"Yes ma'am. Do you have any special supplies you want me to requisition for you prior to departure? I know you will give mission perimeters when the time is right, I just know supplies sometimes take a little bit." Steve said with a smile. "And rest assured ma'am, you will only get my best at all times."

"Oh, Are you a man who knows how to get things?" Maia asked.

"Some things ma'am. I like to do my research but would depend on what it is I'm trying to get." He answered. "And for the record ma'am, I don't run an exchange or dabble in anything illegal or nefarious. Mostly it is just hard to get supplies or supplies on backlog faster. I don't want you to feel like the black market just came on board." He said with a laugh.

"Good I like an honest man. Can you get your hands on some fresh coffee or coffee plants? Raktajino would do as well."?

"Could always use a fresh supply in the arboretum." Maia said.
